General / Off-Topic Cities: Skylines goes Planco and Zoo Tycoon

I'm sure , the new upcoming DLC for Cities: Skylines will not be so complex and versatile as Planet Coaster, but from May 25th you can build Themeparks and Zoo's also in Cities: Skylines. And they allow custom scenery ...

I'm curious to see the first Disneyland in CS

Didn't one of the earlier DLC's already contain some "theme park" elements?
I know I played with it before, or was that Simcity (haven't touched both recently)

I think it's cool to see these things as being part of city building/planning. Bigger cities have these things.

I have a question for those who play this game and Planet Coaster. I am curious if there are complete cities that I can subscribe to so I can visit the city to look around like I can with parks in Planet Coaster.

I need to go back in and redo my custom map to get ready for this. FINALLY I will get my peeps to go to my big nature areas.

Yes you can!
.

It has Steam Workshop.

I have taken like 2 weeks off from Planco due to burnout/frustration and I am super ready for this to drop but 6 more days. /whine [cry]

Maybe I'll poke Planco again tonight and get back to work on the D&D park.

Or maybe I'll try and finish my Cities Skylines map Carchlanthir.

I never really thought a game could have too much content, but Cities Skylines with their DLC's, workshop content and Mods have actually pulled it off. [wacky]

Cities Skylines is 75% off on Steam right now for next 36 hours, so it's a good time to buy, only $7.50. At that price you have to wonder if they're not getting ready to announce something new.

This game has been on my wishlist for a long time. I will finally get it, and a couple of the DLC items too which are 50% off such as mass transit.

Yeah if you watch vids of some of the really good city designers with their looooooooong list of mods and such it can get a little overwhelming.

Thanks for the tip! I've bought a few Cities: Skylines DLC that are on sale :D

I almost bought Cities: Skylines when it was on sale yesterday, but when I realized that the total price of all the DLC combined was around nearly $100 (and thats while its on sale!) I decided against it. I fear the same will happen to PlanCo, and probably many other games in the future. I miss the days of buying 2-3 year old games in the bargain bin at my local retailer. A lot of people blame piracy, but actually its companies like Gamestop that really caused this shift in distribution. I suppose its better for developers this way, but its crazy to think that a game can be marked down 75% off and still have $75 worth of DLC!

That would be the same as if you would have bought the base game 75% off today Don't really see the difference. Might even be cheaper in some cases today. The games back in the days never really saw any major updates and if they did, they were not in the bargain bin at the time. Bargain bin games in the past were all games that were abandoned by the developer for one reason or another. Not really fair to compare with Cities: Skylines (or any other actively developing games). Besides, the base game for Cities offers a lot of fun/ The DLCs are not really needed to enjoy the game as neither offers must have extra game play features the free updates did not provide. Besides that, and they are usually on sale from time to time for a fraction of the cost if you want to save a buck.

You quoted one part of my post, as if you ignored the line where I said "the DLC is nearly $100 and thats on sale!"

With RCT1, I was happy with just the base game, and I thought the expansions were well worth it at the time. I cant remember the price I paid back then, but I think I had bought the base game a year after it came out, and the expansions a couple years later. I didn't even buy RCT2 until a few years after that, and I was glad the expansions came with it because they were kind of lame. But the triple thrill pack for the classics were always really cheap and I remember buying multiple copies of RCT1 as gifts for friends and family.

RCT3 I bought about a year after the expansions, and didnt get the expansions until another year after that. I think I paid about $30 for the base game and maybe $20 for the expansions. Those games offered a lot more especially with the expansions, and I always considered Soaked to be my favorite.

With PlanCo, I dont think enough time or care was put into career scenarios. Some people might disagree, but theres still a big following of RCTClassic because its level design is a bit stronger. With RCT3 and PlanCo theres something missing because they focus more on sandbox mode, but at least RCT3 had a really robust scenario editor which IMO still outshines PlanCos scenario editor.

We could debate for hours about the "necessity" of on-going updates, but I think its a better company model to release a game that doesnt rely on ongoing updates. When developers try to update games for years after they are released, they often cause problems with other areas of the game.

The DLCs are not really needed to enjoy the game as neither offers must have extra game play features the free updates did not provide
The same can be said about PlanCo, I havent purchased any DLCs cuz they don't add enough value IMO and I dont think I should throw away money to support something that I dislike. I pre-ordered this game cuz I'm a big fan of RCT, but it doesn't mean I've enjoyed the business model thus far, I mean I'm not saying the game is trash or anything, just that micro-addons is not my cup of tea

And I should clarify, that the term "DLC" is silly, the entire game is downloaded, the point I have issue with is over priced mini-addons taking precident over larger more valuable content, which is an issue with these kinds of games

I bought a few micro packs but I skipped the Studio stuff because it wasn't interesting. It was just more stuff to play around with in sandbox really. It may be cool for some people that is fine but I would like a big add on that actually adds tons of the stuff to the park. I hope the upcoming content wows me. That city skylines stuff looks cool!
