Clarification needed from FD on the Ship Transfer feature

But why would you want to swap to a Vulture from a T9 which has much better armour and over twice as many weapons?

So I just checked with Adam for you...

He says that you still will be able to use ship transfer, however he strongly recommends that you head over to a combat zone and switch out your Type 9 for a Vulture. It's probably the best and most efficient way to use the new ship transfer features.

That said - it can be used in other instances... such as changing back from your Vulture in to the Type 9 after leaving the combat zone.

Thanks.

I wish you'd taken a pic of his face at that moment.
Honestly the funniest moments during the last streams!

haha.. wish i could rep the entire thread!

This!

I think you'll find I didn't space out; I heard everything!

I was just so excited by the feature that I want to reiterate it's usefulness.

Now, where did I leave my Vulture.....

It was disassembled and packed up in the new and shiny T9-backpack-shipkit...ready to be reassembled whereever needed :D
Oh and your eagle...same thing...in the backpack of the T9's backpack!
And your sidey.... :D :p

edit: Oh you are wondering about your Python and not the Sidey....well...since you asked...

Not the best place mate, let's not drag that into other threads. I am quite sure frontier have seen the reaction now.

Yeah.

There's no way Ed was here for antrhing other than that exact reason.

Also, when they close other threads about that topic, some mods don't overlook adding that the devs have an easier time to get feedback from a single thread. They are definitely keen on gathering as much feedback as they can.

Seriously thanks FD! We throw tantrums because we love you so much. You've obviously spoiled us :D

No,

Not until you sell the T9. Sell it and buy a T6. Then you'll be able to transfer ships, unless your other ships are an eagle and an FDL. In that case, you should sell the eagle and buy two sidewinders instead. But don't upgrade them, they have to be vanilla.

Behave.

All very amusing I'm sure, but you might want to get someone to add a [Humour] tag on the thread title. Right now all anyone sees is a "Clarification needed" thread with an orange Developer Reply icon, but with zero useful content. In the current climate that's not just misleading, it's borderline inflammatory.

Such content locusts here.

I was under the impression you had to be in a station.. With a shipyard..
Thanks for clearing that up for those who may have missed the streams!
Ship transfers from/to combat zones CONFIRMED!
Thanks Ed! I was confused the first 15 or so times but ..thanks

In short you can use ship transfer outside a station?

I thought it was a feature only inside a station...

It's the Space Loach wot caused it...

I have to agree with this.

This ship teleportation issue is mindboggling and it frustrates me that you guys in charge could possibly consider it a good step forward.

There are SO many other, better ways to improve the "accessibility" of Elite Dangerous.

A few off the top of my head:
- Faster supercruise acceleration and deceleration
- Faster hyperspace transitions
- Faster load times
- Interactive non-video tutorial explaining how to do each and every activity available within the game
- Ingame encyclopedia containing much of the necessary ingame information currently haphazardly strewn across the elite wikipedia, inara.cz, the forums here, reddit, and elsewhere

Instant ship teleportation with a pricetag is NOT it.

It needs to at *least* be believable and take a matter of a few minutes, however long it would approximately take a "buckyballer" to jump from point A to point B.

Honestly, you'll be causing more work for yourselves going with instant ship teleportation than not.

If ships can instantly teleport anywhere in the galaxy for a few credits, then there's absolutely no reason we can't teleport *with* those ships.

Same goes for the module transferral. There's no point shopping and visiting around the hundreds, thousands of inhabited stations finding just the right part if you can just park at 1 location and order whatever you like, whenever you like, and have it instantly appear on-demand.

What's the point of having supercruise at all if ships have the ability to instantly appear at any location?

Ship teleportation = you might as well rebrand Elite Dangerous as Elite: No Man's Sky Edition.

___

TL/DR: You've made every other aspect of this game as believable as possible. This new feature of ship transferral needs to be as believable as possible, too.

edit: P.S.: The megathread poll has more than 1800 votes in it, with over three times as many CMDRs wanting *some* kind of believable delay, compared to those who are okay with it being instantaneous. Just want to point that out.
