Clarification on Pioneer suit

Dear Frontier, dear @Stephen Benedetti ,

I'm tempted to give you some money in advance for a (broken 🤭) 5 gig update, no I really am. snarky side comments are snarky.

But would you kindly clarify what we get for a preorder?

I always said the preorder perk would decide if I do or don't.

What is this Pioneer suit?
Is it a cosmetic? Does it have any ingame advantages? Is it Cobra4 unique?

Please clarify.

Oh, and while you're on it you might quell the rumors about Odyssey not included in the LEP, before we have another three dozen threads about that matter... ✅

Aside from all of the above, I’d really like to know a lot more details about the new expansion/game.

So far I feel that they have been extremely light on details. Now that they are actually asking money for it (almost as much as full game), I think they should start providing a lot more specific gameplay details so we know what we are purchasing.

What exactly are we getting for the money, compared to what we’d miss out on if we stay with the current game?

For example graphics. Are those fancy new planetary graphics only in the new atmosphere worlds or are dead planet terrain textures getting upgraded as well?

It says pioneer suit skin.

So assume it's a skin. Ie cosmetic.

Textures are for all, not just thin atmospheres. No source, just a pretty obvious one imo. They're rocky or icy worlds. The atmosphere isn't going to change their entire planetary generation system.

Yeh, not a chance I'm going to decide to preorder or not based on a skin, what it looks like or its exclusivity. I'm getting it anyway.

I just ordered the alpha version. It's only $15 over the cost of the base expansion, which I would have definitely been getting anyway. I don't even really care about the skin. The way I see it, I have three commanders on Horizons (including the free Epic account), so in total I've so far given FD less than $100 if you add a few paint jobs. Steam shows over 3500 hours of play time, but I'm pretty sure that figure is at least 1500 hours light because I stopped launching via Steam when I got my first alt. With that kind of value for money I'm happy to throw them some extra coin for early access to the alpha and beta.

That's your free choice.

It's a skin though ;)
I presume by the wording in the buy options that it's indeed a mere skin, without any special abilities or exclusivity.

If that is worth giving out a free credit, propably overpriced compared to the next sale price, is also free choice.

Good God ! They have quelled that ridiculous rumor already. Dont rattle the fake LEPpers cage.
Indeed.
Hey Commanders,

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will be included for Lifetime Pass holders.
Quote for reference.
But it took me a search and some knowledge how the forums work, to even find it.
And the people again start this rumor. So the communications strategy seems to be suboptimally worded.

Definitely not. As I said, I've never made a decision to buy anything based on a cosmetic. I'm getting it early for other reasons.

If it being cosmetic is an issue for you and the only reason you preorder is for perks then just get it in a Steam sale. All happy then.

But it's definitely a skin. I'm only saying that because it's literally called a skin.

I'm sorry but I would like FD, and not you, giving me the base for my decision.

What's so difficult to understand that I want to get to know beforehand what I spend my money on?
I want to have the option to buy it now. Neither your nor my speculations are helping in this case,
only a clear statement by FD does.

That's like basic consumer rights. 🤷‍♂️

I imagine there will be more information given out.

But now you're just misusing the "consumer rights" thing. Go look it up, there's no statutory right for you to be told anything until you've actually consumed it and found it to be misleading.

Until you've bought it, you've got no consumer rights. That includes no rights to have fdev answer your personal question here (AMA maybe? Good luck!)

Your right is to refuse to buy because you're dissatisfied with a lack of detail.

I guess my driving point is that you're asking for a developer to reply but the obvious agenda here is you making a statement. You're entitled to that statement.

Not to the answer.

But making a thread on it is the least likely way to get your answer without getting lots of strangers telling you theirs.

Anyway, no sense arguing over this. I am sure we'll get more information on the skin before launch.

Hope you get your answer.

I think they already clarified that : planetary enhancements are not for atmos only and will be available without Odyssey.

Same for LEP: Odyssey will be included. Though I have not seen anything regarding alpha access yet.

I presume Alpha is included for LEPers, because there is no Alpha buy-in option at FD.

But again, this is all bad communications. It would be easy to clarify.

So please FD, clarify.

How about you use the search function before we have another three dozen threads about that matter? :p

Seriously though, Frontier has always been absolutely clear that Odyssey will be free for LEP owners. I mean... that's the whole point of the LEP, isn't it?
