Clarification on Pioneer suit

It may not look it, due to the retro styling and 'period teeth', but it's a full pressure suit:

All corsets are pressure suits.

I just ordered the alpha version. It's only $15 over the cost of the base expansion, which I would have definitely been getting anyway. I don't even really care about the skin. The way I see it, I have three commanders on Horizons (including the free Epic account), so in total I've so far given FD less than $100 if you add a few paint jobs. Steam shows over 3500 hours of play time, but I'm pretty sure that figure is at least 1500 hours light because I stopped launching via Steam when I got my first alt. With that kind of value for money I'm happy to throw them some extra coin for early access to the alpha and beta.

So if I understand correctly, you originally purchased it on Steam but have been running it directly via the ED launcher without running Steam in the background, correct?

If so did you pre-order Odyssey on Steam or directly on Frontier store?

Dear Frontier, dear @Stephen Benedetti ,

I'm tempted to give you some money in advance for a (broken 🤭) 5 gig update, no I really am.

But would you kindly clarify what we get for a preorder?

I always said the preorder perk would decide if I do or don't.

What is this Pioneer suit?
Is it a cosmetic? Does it have any ingame advantages? Is it Cobra4 unique?

Please clarify.

Oh, and while you're on it you might quell the rumors about Odyssey not included in the LEP, before we have another three dozen threads about that matter...
I'm curious about the suit as well, and as far as I know a fix/workaround has been identified by a user "TeslaKat" for the preorder breaking login, and the LEP issue had been covered ages ago in a post in the Odyssey announcement thread, so I don't know why people are still getting their knickers in a twist about it:
Hey Commanders,

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will be included for Lifetime Pass holders.

Look upon it as a Forum feed generator ... a bit like the Cobra IV :D

Yes, my main account is through Steam. When I bought my first alt account (directly from Frontier), to avoid a second install folder I created a junction point of the game folder in Steam, hooked that new launcher to the alt account, and created two desktop shortcuts to the two launchers. From that point forward I ceased launching Elite via the Steam client. Also, any updates that happen in the Steam client obviously updates both launchers).

I pre-ordered Odyssey in the Steam client (which incidentally immediately broke both launchers, but you can turn off the DLC in Steam for now to fix that).

Of course when Odyssey does drop, I may have to buy it again for my alt account (or perhaps I'll still be able to choose Horizons for that launcher).

Thanks for the info! I’m slowly trying to piece together bits of information because there doesn’t seem to be any clear answers anywhere.

I only have one main account that I originally purchased on Steam in 2017. Updates for the game obviously come through Steam but when I play I don’t start the Steam client at all and instead just run the game client directly and sign in with my FDEV account. I don’t want to go through the mandatory Steam linking that happens to people that purchase after 2019.

I’d like to pre order but my concern is if I pre order through Steam, would I eventually lose the ability to run the game launcher on its own without having to run Steam as well?

£30 pre-order gets you a skin... you know, that thing you won't be looking at much as you'll be in first person mode as we all know that third-person will be that silly camera that you can't do much in.

For an extra £10 you get to pay to QA their work for them (but don't fret those who miss out on the alpha, Frontier never release bug free software and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to submit bug tickets that are ignored if you miss out on this £10 honor). Oh and a copy of the soundtrack, which of course is included in the game files for free anyway, and you'll be sick off within a few days of playing and have muted.

Pre-order bonus for the base and horizons were exclusive ships, permits and large discounts. Bit of a change, but then Frontier is a different company these days.

I will be skipping the pre-order.

Well I just realized that I had £40.13 in my steam wallet that I had forgotten about so I pre-ordered it. But I have no idea what the suit is.
