Ships Class 6 or 7 distributor?

I'm continuing to work on a multi-purpose Python, somewhat close to:

https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/pyt...382024P42f.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==.&bn=kal's python

And I'm scratching my head at the choice between class 6 or 7 power distributors. Class 7 removes any questions, but comes at quite a hit to weight and rebuy, so I'm wondering if a modded weapon focus class 6 would be viable?

I've tried unmodded class 6, and it's just about OK with fairly active pip/weapon group management and in scenarios where I can clearly separate out offence from defence. A bit of engineering would ease the beam worries, but I don't quite have my head around how the shield-regen/dist draw numbers work out - can I afford to lose a bit of sys recharge as a result of the mod?

hey,

a) for sustained combat enhanced charge PD always beats WEP focussed
c) with a bi-weave this is really a bad idea - you will need to run more pips to SYS, which means less manouverability and less WEP

... i would say, bi-weave + your weapon loadout speaks against a 6A, mre so if you wat to use it in combat, too (and if not, why a bi-weave).

if you would plan not to run it in combat, and switch the beam to a pulse, and two large pulses to MC, a class 6 could work (depending on weapon modifications).

the difference in jumprange is roughly 2 ly after engineering --- only ~10%. might be worth it, for a travelling/passenger mission/trading python. i run a full MC loadout on my trutter with a charge enhanced 6A.

Agreed, that loadout is a bit too laser-heavy for a 6A for my tastes. It's probably workable, especially if you don't mod them in a way that increases capacitor drain, but you're going to have to be aggressive at juggling pips.

I would swap your mining laser to the centerline large hardpoint, put two fixed or gimballed beams in the medium, and two gimballed multicannons in the upper large. You get more on-paper DPS, 6A distro will be plenty to power it all (you could even run a 7D for more cost and weight savings), and you're going to tear through hulls a good bit faster.

I'd go 7 if you can afford it. keep in mind, an unmodified distributer may struggle under heavy pressure on shields or if you're attempting to boost away. Class 6 will mean you will need to be very mindful of your pips. In a cutter I have a 7 modified and still need to pip manage somewhat deftly in order to optimize Time to Kill and make sure my other systems are well maintained.

my two cents.

Oh, on the large use MC's and put a mc or cannon on one dorsal medium slot and the other two slots place gimbaled (or turreted if you like) burst lasers. I'd use gimbaled, as the only ships in the game that actually benefit dps wise from turrets are the cutter and t9.
