Newcomer / Intro Class/size 7 power distributor won't fit into a size 7 slot

Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong, please? I can't buy this size 7B power distributor for my Python due to "incompatible slot".

Other size 7 PD's from my stored modules fit, so why not this one?

Top pic is my slot, bottom of the pic (large area) is the purchase screen.

This is getting stupid now. I've moved my Corvette here. It has an 8A distributor fitted. But when I try another 8A to replace it, it says "incompatible slot". They're the same size and class! What's going on?

have you made changes to the ship which result in a 7b not being powerful enough, since you installed the 7e?

Is it some weird thing where you're exceeding the max thrust?
You mean maximum mass? The 7B is 48 tons more than the 7E, so that's a possibility. The error message should be different, but, well. And a Gunship/Krait/Python only has (as maximum) a size 6 thruster.

One can still install a poor Distributor, though! Such may prevent Boost or may exceed the Power plant capacity, but that does not preclude installing it. If anything, as @metatheurgist and @Ashnak suggested it is more likely (albeit the wrong message) that the heavier B-rated module is pushing the Python above the maximum mass for its present Thrusters.

For @Frankymole, everything looks as if you are using the Outfitting correctly. I can only suggest:
  • For sake of argument, check your mass and Thrusters module.
  • Exit to menu, continue, attempt the purchase again.
  • Look for a Power distributor from a Starport instead.
    • Afterwards, test again whether the Fleet Carrier still refuses to fit the module?
The Python can fit any Distributor at class 7 or smaller!

Thanks, I'll have a look at the thrusters when I log in shortly. I got a 7B distributor at a station, I only went to that FC because Inara says you can't buy a 7A anywhere in Colonia's stations, in fact only two of them even sell the 7B!

The 7B had no problems being bought and installed from Jaques, and I can still fit lower classes of PD straight from my own FC's storage.

I had a similar thing last night with a module. I just changed to an inferior module and moved on.

It wasn't a power distributor, I forget what kind of module it was. Now that I see this perhaps there is a glitch.

My ship included the module to equip five experimental weapons. Are you running one of those? Just a guess that "new game content" from the last few months might have glitches.

I was in my carrier and I have no "modules for sale" or anything like that.

No, I don't have experimental weapons, but it does feel like a glitch.

I took some screenshots of the outfitting and module loadout showing the thrusters:

No trouble at all at "Lanids' Bits & Bobs", and a gorgeous view as well.

So I'd better try the first carrier, to see if the issue is still there. Lanids' also has a tariff (8%) so it can't be that causing an issue.

Haha, it's still doing it at "All Modules 4 Sale" so it's something specific to that carrier.

I know where I'll be buying the 7A from, then!

Bit of a shame the owner lost out on a sale, though.

So, got it from "Lanids' Bits & Bobs", still baffled by the other. I will have to get some materials to engineer it, having blown a lot of them on engineering-up the station-bought 7B yesterday. I need the best runner for my Tritium-transporting because the pirates do love to try and get it off me.

That's what I meant but it appears I was wrong. I wonder if where the carrier is parked is a factor. Another weird gravity effect maybe.

My case was even funnier.
I had a 6A Guardian one in size 7 slot. I could buy a 7E, but not 7A. I could buy 5A but not 6A.
The solution was to leave the carrier and go to buy it to some proper space station. The carrier outfitting is bugged apparently.

I don’t know if it is bugged or not as I gave up on the idea of selling shios and modules from a carrier during the beta, you can only stock the carrier by buying in prepackaged groups of things and the groupings were odd and didn’t contain many of each item either of which could have caused your difficulty.
