Clipper build suggestions

Any ideas on a cool Clipper build? Hauling cheap freight seems like overkill. Combat probably isn't its strong suit. Maybe a bounty hunter / multi role. What do you guys think?

Mining or Business Class passenger hauler. I stick a big fuel scoop, a couple of cabins and it's great for bubble sightseeing tours (although I tend to favour the Orca these days or my Asp for the jump range)

There is a very good reason the clipper is a favored pirate ship.

It can kill most things. And anything it cant kill it can outrun. PERIOD

I have a couple of these.. one is a dedicated Mining ship, and it does a good job of it:

It stays in the same system for the most part, and exactly what I need it to do - break bits of rock and turn them into profit.

My other clipper... it's been a few different things. Right now, it's rigged for annoying NPC's to death:

It does a nice job of it too. I may end up repurposing it once more, when I finally do figure out what it's real strength is.

The python beats in in terms of practicality, but not in looks, speed and cost. What it can’t kill can’t catch it and a full A rate build still only has a sub 5m rebut which is significantly lesser than an A rate python.

While I have used the python a fair bit, I still use the clipper fer most of my day to day stuff instead of the python simply because I love the design and the speed, and while lacking the punch of the python, it’s no pushover either.

I fitted mine with two medium pulses and two large ac, 6a shield and the rest I’m still experimenting with...learning to use it and not die has been fun I have to admit...choose yer battles carefully ^

I use my clipper for detailed system exploration in the Bubble (i.e. scanning planets for materials) and gathering engineering mats from planets and USSes.

It also was a good ship to use for the Guardian Ruins mission with friends, because I could store LOTS of all the Guardian artifact types - plenty to go around for everyone with spares in case any were lost.

My run about clipper has 3 gimballed MC and 1 APA.

A4 shields + couple of boosters, A class thrusters and PD.

It makes a great mission runner, general purpose ship.

If you're into exploring then the Clipper can be fun too.
It flies like a dream in supercruise and when fitted the largest possible fuel scoop then your tank is full in seconds.
The Clipper has enough slots to take all you need along on a trip.
Jumprange isn't all that but imho exploring isn't about how far you can jump.

If you want to explore and take it with you, explore in an Orca or a Beluga.
I rather like the Beluga's massive fuel tank when taking a long trip.

I loved flying the Clipper. it's an excellent pirate ship, but its also good for bounty hunting. I used 2 frags and 2 beams. Multi-Cannons also work well. It's the only large ship that's agile enough to take on fighters easily.

I use my clipper for almost everything I do. Probably not the best ship for any of it, but I love the way it flys and looks over anything else that could do the job better. It's shields are weak, but for PvE you can make up for that by fitting an A7 prismatic and 3 SCBs. Alternatively you could for a C7 Bi-Weave with a bunch of hull reinforcement packages and go for a shield/hull tank hybrid. Not as good against npcs if you allow your shields to take a lot of damage, but if you manage to keep your shields up during a single encounter it is much better in the long run as the bi-weave regen rate allows you to get back to fighting faster.

Weapons can be customized to your fighting style. 4 gimbaled efficient beams are REALLY good for a starting hit and run build. If you are going with prismatics however, I would recommend MCs or burst lasers as you need more staying power to take advantage of your strong(ish) shields.

The main thing I use my clipper for is undermining, which requires the use of primarily energy weapons. I find 2 beams and 2 inertial impacts to be pretty good for this, but it takes a lot of getting used to so I wouldn't recommend II until you have mastered not dieing in the clipper. For reference, here is the build I started out with for undermining:

Once 3.0 hits I plan on migrating to a biweave hulltank build however. This is what I plan on going for. The goal of such a build is to only be firing 2 weapons at a time, the SR Inertial impacts at close range or the overcharged bursts at medium and long range.

I would like to say though, the clipper is not good at any on task, however it's a fantastic multirole ship. It might not be as good on paper as the python, but it's much more fun to fly.

I picked up a Clipper a little while back, with all intents and purposes of using it as a dedicated Miner (namely for the Engineer unlock, but with future viability in mind).

She's a bit drifty, but man does she scream to places quickly (or outta harms way for that matter).

I purposed it with two medium Mining Lasers underside, one Frag Cannon (Double Shot/SS) and one MC (OC/CS) on the nacelles.
I had it combat fitted with asymmetrical double Frag/MC. If you have plenty of materials to re-ammo, these will keep any attackers at bay and then some.
Whilst Mining in Res sites, I'd get scanned, turn around while my drones did their business, KWS the target and absolutely destroy anything without moving (apart from a couple of wings where I had to move and security was busy eating space doughnuts), the only downside being the limited storage of extra materials, so once Beyond is released, this won't be an issue, for the time being I plopped on a Long Range Burst (G1) and and Plasma Accelerator (PS) to mitigate the ammo issue. To say I need practice with the PA is an understatement, so that's discretionary, however I wanted to go for the Alpha ttk that the Frag had so my altercations were as limited in longevity.

She's as toasty as she is floaty though, at least I found. She'd heat up pretty quick when scooping, so I intend to rethink some things and trying to push the heat efficiency. The PP is only a G3 OC I did as a quick fix, as I needed 29.3MW, so I'll be throwing on one of my ~17% G1 OC or re-rolling to start with that.

If you do decide to use her as a Miner, or any for that matter, I highly recommend fitting a Point Defence on the underside to protect against Hatch Breaker Limpets... I actually lost a canister of Painite due to these, and I was livid when it floated toward the rock I'd been mining and subsequently was destroyed before I could retrieve it.

Other than the Res fighting, I haven't tried it as a fully-fitted combat ship, but if that was anything to go by, it was sure fun! [big grin]
