Close up pictures of a Thargoid

So I was checking out the Distress Call from the Majestic Class Interdictor in HR 1185 and naturally a Thargoid was there. Because I had trouble finding it at first, and didn't want to provoke it, I kept my distance and didn't scan it with my Xeno Scanner. Instead I followed it, intending to scan its wake after it jumped. Except. It never jumped. It just sat there and stopped moving, registering on my HUD as a Thargon Swarm.

So, I got gradually closer to it and sure enough, it was sorta well... bugged. So naturally I took advantage and took a bunch of screenshots of it. I have the full album here: https://imgur.com/a/Q9DFV

Also of note, though the pictures don't show it, is that the Thargoids wings spin around the center point. Kind of interesting considering it's supposed to be alive and in nature, whether its natural, or engineered, it's hard to do something like that. Even if there's no blood vessels, you'd think there'd be some sort of connecting tissue. Hmmm...

Afterward, I wanted to see if it was fully bugged so I moved away a bit and opened fire. Well it wasn't. It promptly unbugged, turned red, and attacked me. I tried to low wake away but alas, The Banana Asp just couldn't boost away fast enough. It took out my engines and then killed me. Still it was well worth the 500,000 credit rebuy!

Maybe the pilot was just adjusting input setting for its xeno HOTAS in the menu and you griefed it? No wonder that it freaked out.

I don't think, that the passive 'Goids are bugged. We yet have to identify their different behaviors. I found a passive one, examined it and when it suddenly came to life, it did follow me around. The alien stuff is really exciting and a masterpiece of sandbox style gameplay.

So I originally replied to this but for some reason it never posted...
Anyway..

I don't know. I was so close to this thing that our shields clashed and yet it didn't do a thing until after I shot at it. Secondly, it was untargetable at all. Only its swarm could be locked onto. Thrid, it was completely unlit. Not even the green that seems to show up when it's passive. I don't think it was an intentional behavior...

wow now THIS is a nice closeup of the cockpit:

too bad it looks like two empty seats... :(

those cockpit window eyelashes tho... dont know if id like flying one.

There were images earlier on of that section of a flowership full of unknown probes/artefacts. I wonder if this is actually a hangar / cargo hold rather than a cockpit.

Close(r) up from the above, of the cockpit. It looks like there are two circular "hatches", with iris-type opening (8 leaves), similar to the doors in the Thargoid structures. And 2 odd structures on the right -- legs or tentacles perhaps -- they appear crab-like or octopus-like to me.

Very interesting.

How cool would it be if this was an eye structure? The interceptor is an organism by itself whether thargoid piloted or just an automated drone made by thargoids. Would explain why they are so 'expressive' in their communication. The flashing colors and shifting of wings is to them as hand gestures are to us. Also makes the name cyclops that much more interesting.

man, that's a beauty of a closeup on the cockpit there. looks like 4 stasis pods or something, with the two iris doors behind them. kinda hard to make much else out, but at least now we can see they are ether unpiloted, or the pilots are very well insulated from the rest of the ship.
very cool! :D

Really great set of photos, thanks for sharing :)

Here are some wreckage close-up pictures of the only Thargoid I've successfully blown up solo so far:

Quite a mess inside the cyclops eye. Interesting, though, is that the longish objects on the sides of it seem to be 'detachable' (of sorts) and can be seen from the side. Looks like an alien worm or prehistoric fish of kind. Could it be the crew?

O7,
