I can't compete with that...

Also: Steam lies - it counts the time the launcher is open even if the game isn't running :p .

To elaborate, for me Elite has the same goals as life. Get better. Build better ships, fly them better.
Yeah. You do things to do things, not to achieve some other thing. This is why all those quickstart best start get rich quick guides are dangerous and can seriously spoil the game. To use an old cliché, it's the journey, not the destination.

Yeh I'm not gonna lie, I'd guess about 1/3rd of that is dead launcher time. But I did also own it on the Frontier launcher for the first two years, then later added it to steam.

Thanks for that. I heard of them and was thinking of applying after I get this run out of noob zone. Are you in that group. What do you think? And would not having Odyssey be a problem?
Although Mobius is supposed to be completely against PvP there are players in this group who ignore the rules and will kill you, all without any action being taken against them. With that said, the majority do stick to the rules and are great to fly with.

I'm pretty careful about dead launcher time as I'm using steam to record hours... But even so I've got 1700h on the clock. Still plenty of things to do "because I can".

It's life, but in space... Blaze your own trail CMDR!

There are squads that will show you tips/tricks and ways to play, but ultimately the game is yours. A good squad will not tell you HOW to play though. It's your game.

Welcome to the timesink! o7

Excellent post!

Nothing is being rushed. I’m going to make sure I fully experience each ship and explore the present moment as much as I possibly can.
Tehre is no right or wrong way to play Elite. For me personally the above hits the spot. I have over 7k hours and only just started with Powerpaly.
I've only flown about 80% of all available ships in game.
I've never been to quite a few most popular places.
I experienced generation ships only last year for the first time.
I have so much to do in this game still!

And that's just on my main account, which role-playing wise despises both Feds and Imps, so I have all that side of things to experience on my alts.

You can rush things to the biggest, bestest ships, you can rush through all the content and experience everything in a few months.

But then... what's left to do?

I have some things of note. I only play in solo mode. I think that, especially since I don't have Odyssey, the odds of me running into anyone is quite low. But, when that happens, the odds of me running into a griefer is higher than the odds of me running into someone cool that might enhance the experience. Why open myself up to unwanted trouble, right?
I've run a little experiment here with a free Prime alt, so I can tell you from experience that the odds to meet any of good or bad in open Horizons-only are really low if you do normal game-play. And if it happens that a griefer kills you just for the lulz, you can always block him.

Player groups, Mobius mentioned. I find AXI has been friendly https://antixenoinitiative.com/join-axi/axi-private-group/

Buy Odyssey, community goals and powerplay2 might help with opt-in activities

Keyboard and mouse. I started with a stick for a couple of months, switched to mouse for 5-6 years, and switching between the two for the last few months. I still have not mastered flight assist off with either although I am gradually getting the hang of it. Lots of people seem fine with it regardless of control method and I have come to the conclusion it is 'me' rather than the control method. I'm not a big fan of this persons videos but 5-11 minutes in focuses on mouse settings for FA-Off. A bit later, 13 minutes or so, he suggests key actions. Not all of this worked for me but I did find the mouse rates to be helpful

Hmm...
I'm coming very close to the Andromeda Galaxy:

I have 3 sources of income comparable, others are significantly lower:

The Inara stats are a wealth of information to dig through and easier to access as the codex, I love them. According to those statistics, I made my fortune doing trading (17.8 billion profit) and handing in combat bonds (18.4 billion profit). This is deceptive though, because what isn't reflected is that most of my trading profit comes from core mining, which also counts for trading, and the combat bonds are mostly AX bonds.

It also shows what I don't do 😄 :
