Newcomer / Intro Cmdr name changes

You can't.

If you open a ticket with support, they might change it for you, and I understand that they do, but they're not obligated to.

As someone who is currently contemplating doing the same, here's some more information (which I got from Frontier Support):
* Any "First Discoveries" retain your old commander name.
* Any "First Discoveries" you've already scanned, but not yet submitted, will have your new commander name when you submit the exploration data.

Well this is the newcomers forum so how far have you advanced in the game?

If you're sat in the starter Sidewinder with only a few Cr to your name but you realised you put a typo in your commander name you could wipe your save in Options, you go right back to the start and lose all credits/ships/modules though so only do this if very early in the game.

When you restart from scratch like this it gives you the option to enter your commander name - it defaults to your current commander name but you can change it.

Other than that contact FD support.

If you need to change your name for a specific reason please submit a ticket to the customer support team with the reason for your request of name change and a shortlist of your preferred options in your preferred order. Please be aware that these changes are limited and should only be requested under special circumstances. Repeated name change requests may result in your existing name being locked in place, with no option to adjust it in the future. We do not rename CMDRs for clan purposes.

If you wish to change your Commander name in-game you can restart your save game. Currently this is the only option to perform a name change manually.

To do this, go to the Main Menu, select Options and then select Clear Save.

WARNING: Selecting Clear Save will delete your Commander and all your progress.

Once you have done this the Create New Player screen will appear and you will be able to choose a new Commander name.

I changed my CMDR name by creating a ticket, the staff are very helpful and once I have a list of name I would like, it was done in a blink of an eye.

so yes, it is possible, however you can't do it yourself to my knowlage.

I think there is a mention in the support rules, that they are willing (though not obligated) to change someone's name it there is an objective reason for it.
Embarrassing typo, offensive or otherwise inconvenient names, etc.

"I changed a group and need a new prefix" or "I want a different name, now" AREN'T good reasons, for example.

Chris, do you ever sleep ? ...5 am...I didn't realise there was 2 five o clocks in the same day

Yeah support are very helpful on this. When I registered my latest commander (a commander pack sale on Steam gifted by my GF) I used the prefix to my alternate email address, then realised that of course people couldn't pronounce it. (Surprisingly not everyone has the Gaelic!) - So I adopted Para Handy instead (another fictitious navigator from Alba) and support changed it by return of email.

Support are ace - [up]

It would be nice if maybe we could see a list of all the commander names then if one we fancy isn't listed we could change to that one.

I think it's good that players cannot change their name easily or without good reason. Imagine what fun the gankers would have . I was "given " my name in another online virtual open world game in 2007 and stuck with it since then in many many games . I like the odd names that you come across, and learning about its significance.

Yup keep it individual, and unique to us once registered , I couldn't bare seeing too many Cmdr Captain Kirk's or Spocks out there
