The other is that local news is beefed up
Please beef up procedurally generated wording in automatically generated stories / reports
While they are reviled, the automatically generated news in stations and Powerplay might be less annoying of they saw some love like the BGS did- in a way build a BGS for stories. What do I mean? Each system in the game has a population, happiness values etc that all have 'hooks' right now...forums.frontier.co.uk

Exactly this. The Dark Wolf Marlinists are only a few dozen people, but we publicize the heck out of our actions in a lore- friendly way (and we're involved in the Marlinist plotline, which FDev is pushing), and as a result our actions got mentioned on Galnet at least twice.Agreed fully with Ian's points, as usual. Publicity is the most important thing, it gives Frontier an indication of support and interest among the playerbase. If that's high enough, and it doesn't also conflict with what they want to do, and it can be written into the narrative in a plausible way, and the coin flip lands on "heads, tails, then heads" in that precise order, then it can happen. And finally, for something like this, they probably want to also see that it's more of a permanent victory or trend than something that could be reversed a day or so after they put out the article.
Do something like that for a while, hope that it doesn't conflict with Frontier's own plans for the future, and it might just work. Frontier have hinted at possible player involvement with the secessionist factions (which I tried, didn't publicise, and failed despite making arguably significant BGS gains). This is a bit further away from what they were hinting at, but maybe the story path is there with some modification.
But you are part of the ongoing plot-the difficulty always was (back when players could submit local stories / full fat Galnet) that you had twenty odd wars a week in backwater places and trying to make yet another local war interesting and unique was, well, impossible.Exactly this. The Dark Wolf Marlinists are only a few dozen people, but we publicize the heck out of our actions in a lore- friendly way (and we're involved in the Marlinist plotline, which FDev is pushing), and as a result our actions got mentioned on Galnet at least twice.
You're Flimley, everybody knows you.Galnet never mentioned me once in over seven years.
Flimley
Indeed. I was (am?) right in the middle of it without even realizing! You have to be public about this sort of thing if you want FDev to notice. This is the first time I've heard about the uprising against Hudson, for example, and I don't expect FDev to notice these things when hundreds of systems change hands every week
With the note that reversal - if it's caused by Federal supporters joining in the Hudson Powerplay cause and reinforcing their numbers - is itself a good thing story-wise. And Powerplay moves slowly enough that it would be a few months before the "Hudson's Fortunes Improve" follow-up article would be needed. And finally, for something like this, they probably want to also see that it's more of a permanent victory or trend than something that could be reversed a day or so after they put out the article
Yeah, FDev, we want you to acknowledge the efforts of the player base to make a difference in the game world. That was the point of the game, right? To be living, breathing, and affected by the players? As the title points out this is about their lack of interest in player driven events. There was a huge uprising against Hudson's oppressive regime that cost him dearly and involved both PP and BGS groups alike on both sides. Not a single mention in Galnet, it's as if nothing happened in the Galaxy.
I know they aren't interested in PP but IT DOES affect the players, that was the whole point afterall.
Hudson lost 41 control bubbles and 600 systems, this was no small event it was an epic battle of both tactics and raw manpower. Isn't this why PP was introduced in the first place?
Please FDev take notice of the mechanisms you put in the game, I thought we were supposed to able to affect the Galaxy then pay attention when the players do.
O7 to all the cmdrs that were involved, that was a helluva an effort on both sides.
C'mon FDev, we do have a living Galaxy out there, I'm just asking you take notice and give at least a nod to the events that happen,
No, that wasn't the point. The point was to make that (player impact) something that some players could opt into caring about while allowing players who didn't to ignore all of those other players and play it like they were by themselves in the game.Yeah, FDev, we want you to acknowledge the efforts of the player base to make a difference in the game world. That was the point of the game, right? To be living, breathing, and affected by the players?
I think the Forums might be a place to create a thread specifically about in game news. Galnet, well, is Galnet.
Some do. Outside the game, of course, as usual. It would help if people did an after-action report on what exactly happened.
Thank you for that HansAcker exactly my point if you know where to look there is a lot of activity . I don't expect FDev to pay attention to every system takeover but major events do happen such as recently with the attack against the Feds or as @Ian Doncaster pointed out with the BGS war in Colonia a while back. Some do. Outside the game, of course, as usual.

LOL like any developer is going to trust players to post messages sensibly, just look at twitter for an exampleI always liked seeing custom news on the stations. Stuff like that is what people want in the depth category.
I've always wondered why Elite never had a Message Board thing on the stations. A place where CMDRs could post twitter-style messages which would maybe cycle out of the board after a while. Probably potential for abuse kills it before it started.
Please tell me what use there is for a newspaper that expect the readers to figure out the news.Sometimes they just expect people to pay attention![]()
This was a scripted event and all that's fine and well. The player event dwarfed this in it's effect as many others have and hopefully will in the future. This did not affect our BGS group but did many others, obviously we paid attention but my point is that Fdev doesn't have to make up contents when sometimes the players are providing incredible hard fought events that should be encouraged and worth a mention.I know that azaladshu, the main system that defected from Fed control in a CG have been brought back to the fold thanks to the friendly compliance officers and black leather boots enjoyers. Since the system was crawling with FC long after the CG, it seems it was a coordinated FED faction thing, and I assume most if not all of the other secessionist system are also back to fed control.
So maybe Hudson is tanking in the PP thing, but BGS wise, it seems it's back to normal.
It is sending a very conflicted message.
