Cobra Mk IV

After all this talk about the CM4 I decided to try one as a miner mostly so I could collect materials. My first test was in a low sec Rez (for the specific purpose of seeing how it holds up against some light attacks). Loved it. It is a surprisingly fun and survivable ship. Here's the load out I went with (Mind you, my goal isn't so much to reap in credits from mines but more to get materials for synth and RNGineers):

I suppose if I want a bit more room I could get rid of the scoop but for my purposes this worked very well.

Edit: When I took the screenshot I had 2 mining lazers but found that it was overkill for my 2 collectors.

You mean the same limitation. I understand this is not your decision so I am trying not to shoot the messenger, and while it is great (but not unexpected) to hear that XB1 player will also be able to get a MK IV, the tactic is still the same, and still as immoral. Imagine if a game like WoW would lock an entire character class behind buying a specific expansion before a deadline. The backlash would be enormous. But somehow doing the same to a ship in ED (let's face it: a ship is the closest equivalent to a character class) is fine?

The only reason there hasn't been a bigger outcry about this is that the MK IV is not an unmitigated upgrade, and is technically superceded by the Python anyway (unlike the MK III, which remains extremely useful due to its speed). If the MKIV were a top tier ship, the threads would alternate between "nerf MK IV", "MK IV = P2W" and "Bought Horizons last week. Why u not let me buy MK IV?"

Last but not least: why is it game developers/publishers only ever live in the now and never think of people who buy their game in 5 years, only to find themselves presented with a list of stuff that they can never get because they arrived too late to the scene. Before anyone says "their fault for not coming earlier" - in 5 years that game may be the birthday present for the then - 12 year old who was only 7 in 2016 and had no chance whatsoever to know about this scheme and buy into it in order to not miss out on a game they may be interested when they are a bit older.

(Wow, I think this is the first time ever, like really ever, I made a "think of the children" argument, without initially intending to. :D)

I understand where you're coming from but this is very much a long term mmo type game and the devs work very hard every day with continuous content. Yet it does NOT have a paid subscription and no pay to win micro transactions. It's long like it's game breaking to not have the cobra. The game is not without its faults but hey.. none are. I just feel like for the game to flourish they need all the support they can get. No offense intended by the way. Just my humble opinion

I wish I had one. I missed the pre-order for Horizons. Is there any chance it will be made available for all ?

I've performed some searches but have not found a definitive answer on if it will ever be available for purchase.

thx and GL HF

Its available to all who buy Horizons before 30th of July, so you've still got time :)

She may not be the fastest thing around, but if she's got to run, look at those three little presents she has on top to leave behind for a pursuer. Size two seeker missiles also not something for any small ship to scoff at, all the while her ability to mine is not adversely affected.

I've had Horizons for two or three months. I have not seen one anywhere. Do you have to wipe your account first? (which I won't do atm) It does not show up in my stored ships list. Maybe I'm missing something.

I figured I missed out on the initial give away because I did not buy Horizons by pre-order. I got it after its release.

thanks for the help

Thank you for saying that Cmdr! It feels good for people to positively acknowledge us Xbox erst. So thank you kindly. The owners club sounds cool. Well... I'm gonna buy one

The Cobra 4 is my go-to ship for illegal rares smuggling now.

Try this Hank:

EDDB then type in cobra 4 in the ship search and your present location.

Hank, have you got it on PC or XBOX, because my reply assumed you had XBOX version but we XBOXers couldn't pre order like you mention, so if you're on PC I apologise for the false hope.

I'm on PC.

I've been to 5 or 6 stations that EDDB showed as selling them but no luck. I just now went to GL in Leesti as another person mentioned a few pages back where he bought his, no luck.

I guess I missed it since I'm on PC.

crap .... if that's the case, I'll give up and just hope they make it available to those of us on PC but bought Horizons after pre-release. But I won't hold my breath.

no problem Groucho I appreciate the help. Have a nice day.

Has there been any discussion from devs about them offering the C Mk IV to everyone ? I tried a search and found nothing but it could have been my choice of search words.

[ doesn't seem right to let XBoxers buy but PC'ers can't but I'm not going to get on my soap box over it ]

GL HF to all

I have to apologize for the previous posts. I got here via search and did not realize I was in the XBox part of the forum. (but I still wish I had a C Mk IV)

:)

I'm currently using the mkIII version is MKIV a lot better or is it just minor upgrades?
It is not an upgrade to the MK III in any way shape or form. It is a side grade. These ships could not be more different in terms of behaviour, strengths and weaknesses, yet both are definitely multipurpose. The MKIII relies on its speed and reasonable internals and jump range to give it its versatility and survivability. It is a supremely elegant ship!
The VM4 is a lumbering brute in comparison. While the MK 3 is one of the fastest boosted ships in the galaxy, the 4 is one of the very slowest (no underestimating this change as it tempers everything else). The MK4 is SLOW. It also has seriously heaps of room inside for customisation and it also has really very well placed hard points (and more of them).
In short, both are multipurpose ships that go about being multipurpose in fairly different ways. It's a side grade. Both are multipurpose ships that carry the name of Cobra and share a very similar profile. The similarities end there. I'm a big fan of both ships and use them (as well as a bunch of others ;)) but would not recommend the CM4 if what you are looking forward to is an upgrade to the cm3. Maybe think of it this way: the cm3 is to the iClipper what the cm4 is to the Python.

Another necro thread...but I'm still gutted I can't have a Cobra IV on my PC version of ED...since I had it on the Xbox an all

Got a friend into the game recently. She'd never even heard of Elite let alone the Cobra 4, and after enjoying the Cobra 3 so much she was pretty disappointed to learn she couldn't get one, since she bought the game almost a year after horizons came out. Are latecomers to the game forever locked out of this content?

There's always the slight chance that FD will add it as purchasable DLC (They would have to do this as early adopters of Horizons paid more for it) after "season" 3 drops or add it for early adopters of the new season.

Though, to be honest, she would be mightily disappointed in the cobra mk IV after having the mk III.
