Cobra Mk IV

There's always the slight chance that FD will add it as purchasable DLC (They would have to do this as early adopters of Horizons paid more for it) after "season" 3 drops or add it for early adopters of the new season.

Thanks for the hope. Yup I've been hoping for something similar, although FD is in the unenviable position of being criticized whatever decision they make. Keeping the status quo is annoying new players, making it paid would also probably annoy those new players, and changing it for free or making it paid would annoy those that want it to remain exclusive.

I understand the need to encourage customers to "buy nao" with incentives like the Cobra 4, but once that incentive has outlived it's usefulness, it should be used again or even made available as dlc. The problem happens when this "buy nao" incentive is dressed up as some kind of pledge to loyal players, when it's really nothing of the sort.

Though, to be honest, she would be mightily disappointed in the cobra mk IV after having the mk III.

The bad news is, it probably will never be made available again, but the good news is, it's rubbish.

As for the ship being disappointing, we were actually planning to use the same ships and use them as exploration ships since they seem pretty well suited to it, but since she can't use one I probably wont use mine either. (jump ranges etc)

Only in the wrong hands.

the only reason one is in my shipyard, "just in-case" it gets a class 8 FSD drive at some point in the future, other than that its rotting away like an unloved sailboat in a marina

Surprisingly the Type 6 can make a very capable budget explorer, much cheaper than an AspX to set up too.

Everytime I see a topic with someone stating the cobra mk4 is rubbish it hurts me. Maybe they're comparing it too heavily to the mk3. I love the little ship. Slap three lasers and two missile launchers and you have yourself one deadly little tank of a ship. It explores pretty good too.

It's not rubbish. Not in the slightest.

Problem is, people only think about combat.

Okay, a Viper Mk III is leagues better in a fight.

Now think of how many things the Cobra Mk IV can do better than a Viper.

That's right. Literally everything that isn't combat.

I think about fun. Something the Cobra IV certainly isn't. Yes you can do things in it, but you can also have secret alone time with a melon with a hole in it. There are many better alternatives

I've sold my mk4 and I realy tried to like it.
It looks very nice but that's where the fun ends for me.
Every time I flew it I felt I was missing out on something and I'm not a combat orientated pilot.
There are so many more fun alternatives to the mk4, a shame really, it looks like a ship with potential but it's actually quite disappointing.

The trouble with the Mk IV isn't the ship itself...but when it was released. Most of us long term forumites had already moved beyond the range of the Cobra territory and onto more role specific ships like the Asp or T-series and judge the MkIV on the grounds of jaded comparison...either with the Cobra III or something bigger or more specialised role wise.

Try looking at the MkIV as a step between the MkIII and an Asp as a multirole for the up and coming pilot and you'll see where it does an excellent job. I loved mine, it wasn't a fighter, it wasn't a specialised trader like the T6 or T7, it was a true multirole...a mini Python in effect.

Once I had engineered mine a bit, it boosted quite happily to over 400, jumped 25Ly with 52t of cargo...a respectable 32Ly empty with a double buggy bay, had excellent hardpoint placement and sizes, cracking internals, decent shields, was an excellent miner, a decent explorer...and for all it's internal space, weapons and versatility it's still a small landing pad ship.

Pretty awesome ship, really. Still gutted that I can't ever have one on the PC...

It's different strokes for different folks. As a small ship worth beating up and gathering goods it is quite nice. I used it for rare commodities and that felt right. It was fun for me. Of course I get that people won't like it. But I don't feel that warrants calling it a crap ship in general, just a crap ship for those who don't like it. :D

I don't know why you guys feel so strongly against the Mk IV. I really like the ship, even though I spent a lot of time flying a Mk III. I think Mk IV has better internals and better hardpoint placements and it can be a really good multi-purpose ship. I enjoy flying it even if it's a little heavier and less agile than its predecessor. The cockpit looks more modern, I like it much more. Oh and the red default paintjob looks great as well. So I don't think it's that bad at all as some people here claim. That said, no one misses too much if they can't access it in-game as it's quite similar to the Mk III at the end of the day.

I agree with you the mk4 being a step between the mk3 and the AspX, never looked at it that way actually.
The thing is though, I still fly and enjoy the mk3 and Aspx, the mk4 however never made that lasting impression on me.
The mk4 is coming short on all aspects of travel to me personally, it's slow, not very maneuverable and it's jumprange isn't all that either.
The mk3 and AspX have at least two of those travel aspects covered.

Maybe I'll give it a try again someday.......
