Now that the release date of PS4 ED is known, and all formats are covered; Could we, at some time after the release, get the ability to buy the MK4 (even for some exorbitant rate if you like) from the frontierstore?
After all, almost everyone who has it says it's a terrible ship, so where's the advantage?
And it's surely a source of money from those like me who want a full compliment of every ship in the game.
Obviously I've already pre-ordered the PS4 version in the hope of getting it, but why not open it up on the other formats after the release?

What? Are you telling me this unwieldy piece of flying junk, not content of being a piece of flying junk, actually cannot be bought normally?

If that's actually true, I'll be laughing the plough off for quite a long time...
[EDIT] Oh my Zeus it's a pre-order bonus... Well I wonder wether it's even more laughable, or less... I mean, Yay! A clearly sub-par version of an already available craft which nobody ever flies!
That's why you don't bundle things ike that in pro-orders : Either you turn them into P2W, or they're empirically not worth it for balance reasons...
I like my Mk IV... I use it to fart around the bubble and pick up mats. Engineered its not to bad. I think they'll do the same as before- pre-order gets you the IV.
It is a lovely ship and should never have been an exclusive. I use mine to run passengers and although it is a little slow, it stands up to the task very well.
Unfortunately, as Allchemyst says, FD decided to advertise it as an exclusive ship to existing players who pre-purchased Horizons.

It was announced for the forthcoming Horizons season back in newsletter #86:
We'll be talking about Elite Dangerous: Horizons lots in coming weeks and months as we develop the game in preparation for our first gameplay reveal, beta and eventual release. For now, Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available for pre-order, and existing players get a £10 discount and access to the exclusive Cobra Mk IV in-game. Buying Horizons will unlock the full season of content, extending into 2016. Beta access is also available for the entire season of Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansions. and we're also making the Lifetime Expansion Pass available again, granting access to all current and future seasons of Elite Dangerous and all beta tests.
For a limited time all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. Those who take advantage of this offer will be able to purchase the Cobra MkIV in-game when Elite Dangerous: Horizons lands.

The Cobra Mk IV will be made available to purchase using in-game credits for players who purchased Elite Dangerous Horizons before a certain date (dependent on platform).
PC users are eligible to purchase the Cobra MKIV with in-game credits if they purchased Elite Dangerous + Elite Dangerous: Horizons before 5th Feb 2016. This includes Lifetime Expansion pass holders, Alpha & Premium Beta owners.
Xbox One users are eligible to purchase the Cobra MKIV with in-game credits if they purchased Elite Dangerous + the Horizons Season Pass before 30th July 2016.
Cobra MKIV's are not automatically applied to your account after purchase and it will not be available to unlock for Season Pass purchases after the 5th of February 2016.
Back-tracking from "exclusive" could get messy. You can't sell something as exclusive, then decide later that it wasn't.
If they were to do so then they'd not only have demands for the wireframe cobra skin and probably "kickstarter" exclusives to be made available, but they would be wide open to claims of false advertising.
For the record, I got it due to having bought the Lifetime expansion pack - I don't think it's even left my hangar after purchasing one...
Personally I wish they'd never gone that far. Exclusive paintjobs, decals etc fine - but entire ships is a bit OTT and has been seen as unfair - and well, it doesn't make much sense anyway if you then want to sell addons for them - you've already limited the potential market.
Hopefully they won't lock off anything meaningful as an 'incentive' again, but they have painted themselves into a corner with the Cobra MkIV just because of the sales pitch.
My suggestion:
when season 3 or the next paid DLC, Fdev should bundle the cobra mk4 with any other exclusive pre order content, so that people can pre-order season 3 / DLC, and get it.
As a cobra mk4 user (on my main account) I think thats fine, and it would allow my 2nd account to catch up.
The reasoning i would put forward for PS4 players getting the Mk4 is this - when the Cobra Mk4 was released on PC and then subsequently on XBone, most Commanders had moved beyond the requirements of a ship that size, and it pretty much got passed by, which is a shame. Yes you can argue that the MK3 is bette rin most aspects, but engineered, the Mk4 can be a beast.
Will you consider releasing this for PS4 players who purchase ED and Horizons at launch, and releasing it early enough so that the Cobra Mk4 gets the love it deserves? I just missed put on Xbox, and would love a chance to fly it on PS4,as would many other Commanders. Cheers o7

I don't agree that you or your game 'out grows' a particular ship. There are just some ships that we just enjoy so much; that we will return to again and again. For example, there are a lot of old school players, that have their favourite Sidewinders, or Viper IIIs, that they have more fun in, than their billion credit Cutters or Annies, that they know they can take down anything; but buzzing around in the smaller ships, is just more rewarding. For me it is my Cobra III; this has always been my go and lets have some fun ship.

Well I'd suggest to make it accessible in a more interesting way, f.e. when you earn your first Elite rank. I'm flying it now until I get access to better ships (that can be a while as I play very rarely).

Couldn't have said it better. I have my Cobra IV and I think it IS a good Ship. Engineered it's either a respectable fighter, a very good light Trader with teeth or an excellent small Miner.
Please make it (after a time, say 2 or 3 years) available for all players.
