Cobra Mk V and more...

My Mandalay is a great ship but I'm as excited about this one as I was for the Mandalay. This ship is a beauty and I really like the flight deck (aka bridge).
After buying ^^ my long range exploration ship, I hope I have enough Arx to buy the CobraV on day one. Are there any guesses on the Arx price ? Or has it been announced ?

The Cobra Mk Iv is a lead brick, but it has proven itself useful as a Planetary Pirate 60t, Trader 72t, CZ Outpost--mine bombing and missile boat.
If the Cobra Mk 5 handles similar, or better, it will be a good ship.

Will be the same as the previous three ships almost certainly. 16k ARX were they?

Edit: Store says 16,520 ARX for the standard Mandalay, and Type-8 and Python ll when they're not on sale.

You're ignoring the ship size. Asp X is medium. Mandalay is medium. A very light medium can go fast (mass vs thruster). A very light small can go fast.

That's asking a lot for a heavy small ship. If it was a medium (frontier could have cheated by having the dimensions be just above the small pad size) then there would have been so much more potential.

Believe me, my friend, I really want it to go fast. I want it to be Mandalay levels of handling. Go fast, do crimes. But here we are.

Since it will start out an Arx ship, it should still be decent. But I am a little sad it's a small. A light, fast medium cobra was a heck of an offering.

I just can't ignore the numbers.

Do you assume that somehow 4A trhuster on Medium ships are different that the same trhusters on Small ship with the same hull mass?
Ok, so what about that:

M pads compared together:

Scout - 150 T hull mass. Speed 188/341
Mandalay - 230 T hull mass. Speed 244/356 with the same size of thrusters as Scout...

similar for some S pads:
Cobra Mk IV - 210 hull mass. 150/300
DBX - 260 hull mass. 203/328

As I said... hull mass is just an indicator, but that doesn't mean that new Cobra with similar modules than old Cobra Mk IV will have the same performance. There is more than just how many modules/mass/pad size...

As I said, just check the numbers.

All that about Cobra mk V are just predictions, so saying that this ship is that or that is just guessing. And I love predictions and guessing, but I can't rate the ship becasue of that. But we need just wait few days probably for partners streams.

I really sad right now. They put an exploration cockpit on the MK V and then gimp it with size 4 FSD, limiting it's jump to low to mid 60s at best. My explorer will stay the Krait Phantom after all, because the Mandalay has a fighting ship cockpit.
Yes they made the point that this time the ship is supposed to be multi roll so good at everything but best at nothing.

On the video you can see Cobra Mk V - 270 m/s with 2 pips for engines...

Hmm. I would not mind it being quicker than Mk III. Maybe it will be quick. I hope so. Being a small ship, the only thing giving it any survival odds is go-fast.

But we don't know if the vid shows a stock ship, engineered or what. We're gonna have to wait till December.

Curious if that was stock or not. I think 270 m/s with 2 pips and a 4E thruster would be really significant. Mamba is about 280 with 2 pips and the stock drive so either that’s not stock or it’s a very pleasant surprise.

Really curious to see what the engine profile is like.

Maybe I missed something from Stream (the official channel). Was it said how many new ships will be produced in 2025 ?

Had the Cobra Mk5 been a medium ship, and more significantly, had the capability to equip a fighter hangar then I'd have been compelled to get it.

Honestly, it's a relief it's neither of those things - my Keelback doesn't have to retire 👍
