Cobra Mk4 equivalent please.

I've been moaning about this since the Thargoid bases first appeared so I thought I might as well make it "official".

The Cobra Mk4 is the "best" ship in the game for content related to the Thargoid bases.

It's small, which means it's easy to land on uneven ground and it's got 8 internal slots which means you can fit a shield generator, a fuel scoop, a discovery scanner, an SRV bay and still have 4 slots remaining for corrosion-resistant cargo racks.

The only other ship which is comparable is the Dolphin, which isn't as easy to land due to it's length and can't defend itself as well due to the lack of hardpoints.

So, you've accidentally created the "best" ship in the game for monkeying around at Thargoid bases and then locked it away behind a historical paywall which means nobody who doesn't already have access to it will ever have the opportunity to make use of the unique advantages it offers over other ships.

This needs fixing.

So, how about either a Jameson-era Cobra 3 which has the same spec's as a modern Cobra Mk4 or, perhaps, a modified Adder which, again, has the same spec's as the Cobra Mk4?

I hear that F.D. has put a lot of thought into this error and have come up with a solution.

Sometime in the future you will be able to buy and sell second hand ship and so those 'locked out' will be able to purchase a second hand Cobra IVs at their leisure.

Never seen an NPC flown MK IV, where would these second hand ships come Cobra's from? Btw have you a got a source that locked ships will be sold second hand? I remember reading that all ships are second hand, hence why they all look crap (imperials excluded)

I have seen lots of NPCs in Cobra IVs.

As to my source; well that is a bit of a long story. Long story short: I was sniffing a particularly attractive poodles No.2s and this fly came along and because we stated chatting about Elite, he told me, he had a friend, who hangs around on the wall at F.D top floor office. I didn't believe him of course; but them he came up with this gem and I realised, it had to be genuine.

Why do you think I laid off of blaming T.J.? I now know that it is not, all his fault.

Frontier should just make the actual ship itself available to everyone - & I say this as a Horizons 'pre-ordererererer'

I'm not one of those altruists you understand? No, I simply want all of you to share the misery of flying the anticlimactic abomination that is the Cobra MkIV!

NB: Do I have to explain that I'm joking about the second part? :O[blah]

I too have seen plenty of NPC CobraIVs, so they are there.

Re the OP - I have access to the IV on two accounts and really wouldn't object to it being "unlocked" or a MkV being produced to accommodate the demand. It isn't a wonderful ship, it is better than it was (I think) and I quite like it but unless we have small-pad only outposts is isn't really "special".

How does the FDS (9 internals and all the hardpoints you could want) compare in terms of landing?
I know it's a medium ship, but I've never had trouble landing my AspX - admittedly I've not tried landing near the Thargoid bases.

I say this as a Cobra IV owner who wants to keep feeling special ;)

[Edit]
Oh poop.
Military slots.
Scratch the FDS.

I have it as well and also; as i have said before, also believe that FD should just release it to the masses. It is, unique after all. :D

I agree, or they could eventually bring it back for the pre-orderers of the next expansion.
They would have to wait a little longer in that case though.

I don't need nor do I demand exclusivity for my Mark IV. Let others enjoy the ship too.

Here is one that was messing about in the current CG:

I see the point because I plan to get a Cobra IV for exactly this purpose, but given that I've had no issues parking Anacondas, Pythons, and Asps at Thargoid Bases I'm not sure the reason holds up.

Not sure what you're on about, but, just to clarify, I have access to the 4.

Personally, I don't have a lot of use for it and replacing it with an exclusive decal would be fine.

It's a point of principle - I was promised an exclusive ship and if that agreement is reneged upon, then it should apply to all exclusive items.

Honestly though, it's not like anything would change if FDev did make it freely available. There are much more important things in life :D

If that's the rationale, wouldn't it be easier, more practical, more flexible, and face less opposition if you ask for larger corrosion-resistant cargo racks?

For what it's worth, I have Cobra IV, although I don't really mind if others get access to it too. Just seems like if that's your goal, better racks is a much better solution.
