Cobra Weapons

I just purchased a Cobra (yay!) but don't know too much about how each different weapon actually performs. Thus I am looking for suggestions for what setups to use for it for combat so I can defend myself and friends from pirates.

Thanks,
Commander Phoenix13

I don't do pvp. But I have my cobra fitted whit 2 level 3 Gim multi cannons at the top and on the bottom 2 level 1 gim multi cannons.

So ive gone all in for gimballed multi cannons.

If I would do pvp I would go for the cannons as they are so over powered compared to other weapons atm.

But iam a lazy player and not that good at aiming hence my choice of the gimbals.

Multi cannons do require at least 1 pip on the weapon or they overheat quite fast. And its a close combat weapon. No point to fire if your target is 2 km away.

But just try different weapons and find the ones that suits your gameplay best :) And its good to try out different weapons to find its ups and downs.

Note that gimballed pulse lasers are bugged as they can stop to track the target and work as non gimballed.

Why is everyone hating the lasers? On paper, the burst lasers look good. In the stats window it shows them having more power than cannons. Do they just overheat too quickly or something?

There's the heat issue, the fact that you have to put a number of pips to take care of that (meaning less for system/engine), and that some of them are broken right now.

That being said, I like a combo of lasers for the shield, and then once it's dropped, lay on the multicannons. But I haven't found a loadout that is so perfect for me that I don't change from time to time. Sometimes three lasers can work better for me, because once you drop those shields, the hull on smaller ships don't need a lot more.

Laser and beam weapons require that you put 4 pips in the weapon for them to do max damage and for faster recharge from overheating. And that means you have just 2 pips left to either put in system or engines.
But whit cannons that just require 1 pip in weapons you can put 4 pips in engine for faster speed and better manoeuvrability and 1 pip in system.

Thanks for the help. Is there a chart showing power of weapons per pip put into weapons? Basically wondering how to know how many pips i need for each class of lasers.

After reading up on what you guys suggested, I'm thinking of 2x C4 cannons and maybe 2x C1 burst laser (G). I also saw turretted...are those basically lasers that shoot in any direction (not just in front) but less accurate (and are they really that inaccurate?)

Turreted are really meant for defensive more than anything, and the biggest issue with them right now is that sometimes they work too well, and shoot ships you don't want to shoot, like the police. More for the larger ships anyway, as they have a lot of hard points.

Turreted is only for bigger ships like the lakon 9 and the anaconda.
So don't bother whit them :)

reason I choose all gimballed is because of the tracking.

if you mix non gimballed and gimballed slotted you will se different target tracking's and its hard to tell which on you should aim for.
So my advice is to not mix gimballed whit non gimballed.

Pips for lasers is 3 or 4. cannons, Multi cannons 1 pip.

You can test it out by equipping lasers and fiddle around whit the pips :) and you will se the difference.

If you are going for burst lasers and cannons I would recommend you go for lev 4 cannons and lev 2 burst lasers. Non gimballed,,
And if you just have 2 burst lasers its ok whit 2 pips in weapons.( My example is if you have all weapons as lasers and a good measurement is 1 pip for every laser weapon you have slotted )
Put them in fire groups.
cannons in one fire group and the bust laser in an other. use 2 triggers on your joystick to fire respective fire group. use laser to take out shields and then the cannons for the hull :)

Enjoy the 4 gimballed multi cannons craziness, while it lasts. I have a feeling FD will tone 'em down. Too strong. And too easy for a great game like this..

Multi cannons is not to strong. its the cannons that are to strong.

I cant kill a target fast whit 4 multi cannons. And they ahev changed so its difficult to track, take longer time, and they are not good at distant target so I think the multi cannons is quite right :)

Perhaps. :)

Maybe i've put myself into similar situations one too many times. You know, line up behind a target at 500m, press fire and BAM, down in 10 seconds.

I played a bit today in an extraction site and I also lined up but I never manage to take down an cobra ( only ship that had wanted status) in 10 sec whit multi cannons.

I get the shields down and some hull damage and then they surge away so I have to catch up.

A sidewinder or an eagle I can blast quite fast but you can do that no matter what weapon you have equipped if you ship have 4 hardpoints :)
