Collecting data for engineers G5 upgrades?

There are plenty of tips in the forum about where to find specific data types, but I often come across data I'm not looking for and unsure whether to keep it or not. If you've found yourself in the same situation, here's a mnemonic. Not intuitive, but I didn't choose the data names. :) Anyway, the bottom line is that if any of the words (except "all") in the following sentence appear in the data description it should be a G5 data type:

"Capture all abbrerant, abnormal, cracked, modified, unexpected, untypical fragment exceptions".

Bit of a mouthful, but thankfully only 10 words to remember.

Didn't spend a lot of time on it so E&OE.

EDIT 1

- Thanks to Cmdr Achibot re need to include "cracked industrial firmware". Added "cracked" to sentence.
- Using sentence can collect 55 of each data type for balanced load (or more of a particular data type at the expense of another G5 data slot) and discard unwanted data on the fly.

EDIT 2

There is about 120 data and material types and 47 of are needed for G5 upgrades, which are:

DATA - Any that include capture, abbrerant, abnormal, cracked, modified, unexpected, untypical, fragment or exceptions;

MINERAL - Any that start with R, A, T or Cad, Moly, Nio, Zirc;

TECHNOLOGY - Any that (a) start with P, R, I, M, E (no equipment or scrap) or Bio, Comp, Config, Core, High, Imp, Therm; (b) include conductive (not "conductive compound"), exchanges, manipulators or vanes.

Same disclaimer, if I've missed one :)

Recently went through the components list on inara and nuked everything that is only used for inferior mods. Those parts barely have a reason to exist in the first place. Made enough room to fill up with unknown material and data I got while farming unknown fragments for Palin. Those may have a use in the future, though I am afraid they're just more worthless scrap.

Engineering really needs more developer attention.

I think you're right, they will be needed for Thargoid related engineering, there is no reason for the 'fragments' to be considered an engineering material if this was not intended to be the case. ;)

I'm reminded of Bart Simpson's mnemonic for Canada's Governors General: "Clowns Love Haircuts, So Should Lee Marvin's Vallet."

But seriously, thanks. This could be quite useful.

My list, for reference:

Aberrant Shield Pattern Analysis (Shield Booster Resists x3)
Abnormal Compact Emissions Data (Scanners - Long Range x5, Clean Thrusters)
Adaptive Encryptors Capture (Scanners - Fast Scan x4)
Anomalous Bulk Scan Data (Power Distributor - Focus x3) [Note: G3 highest available]
Classified Scan Fragment (Scanners - Wide Angle x5)
Cracked Industrial Firmware (Weapons - Long Range x7, Weapons - Short Range x6, Power Distributor - Charge & Capacity, Dirty Thrusters)
Datamined Wake Exceptions (FSD - Increased Range)
Modified Embedded Firmware (Weapons - Overcharge x7)
Unexpected Emission Data (Weapons - Efficient x7)
Untypical Shield Scans (Shield Booster - Heavy Duty, Shield Generator Resists x2)

I am only missing Abnormal Compact Emissions Data from my shopping list, and find that chanting "Abnormal" over and over in my head to be bad for my mental health. Nearly as bad as not being able to find any of it.

FWIW, it's not always that straightforward.

Just yesterday I found myself in the rather awkward position of wanting to do a bunch of G5 upgrades, having all the mat's to do those upgrades but having to go and scavenge low grade mat's so that I could apply special effects to weapons and then redo the rank-up for the engineer before I could apply another G5 mod.

If you're the sort of person who is really organised, it's probably wise to get yourself a list of the mat's required to make suitable G1, G3 and G4 mod's offered by each weapon engineer so you'll always have the stuff at hand to re-do the rank-up after picking a special effect.

If, OTOH, you're like me, it'll just mean spending an hour sniffing around USSs, doing ship scans and pottering about in the SRV to gather low grade mat's.
Not the end of the world, of course.

Personally, I find it really irritating trying to plan engineer-related shenanigans.
The easiest thing to do, for peace of mind, is just to take a ship to an engineer, see what's needed and then, if I don't have the mat's, I park it in a local station, transfer my AspX and then spend a couple of hours scavenging what I need.
Definitely not the most efficient way to deal with engineers but I just CBA spending a lot of time planning it all with military precision.

Thanks, bolded the words in list..so seems to work, but did I overlook "cracked industrial firmware"? Sorry. May have to add a unique word (if there is one) from that phrase to the sentence. :)

Cracked is unique, not present in any other Data Type.

I have to bin most of the stuff mentioned on this thread.

The only two bits of data worth anything imo are wake exceptions and crack.

I must be really lucky...
whenever I need to go engineer something, pinning a blueprint before rolling usually gives me a decent roll first time.
If its a rubbish roll I will repin the blueprint.
Tedious maybe, but I dont grind for rolls, if I get a decent roll it does me for PvE.
I only carry 16-20 of each type of material/data, except for the common chemicals like carbon/sulphur/phosphorous, etc.
I only seearch for those if I specifically need them.

That way I have enough to roll 3 of each grade if needed to open the next grade to get me back to grade 5.

QoL patch from Fdev would be to give each material/data a limit of 100 or 256 each, instead of a blanket 1000/500 for all materials/data.

They don't because the vast majority of it is useless.

But wouldn't disagree with the comment above on not ditching rares. In the next 7 days. Before we can confirm how much is useless again.

People need to deal with their hording problems.

It's not hoarding that's the issue, it's having to trim your inventory as frequently as if you are playing a hardcore roguelike. Honestly, who thought that would be an interesting game mechanic? Because they were wrong.

This is another thing bothering me with engineers: The whole ranking and favors thing. In the end it amounts to throwing some random materials at the engineer with making mods you discard anyway just to get the favor up. Why not make it materials to begin with? Make higher mods require more (lower grade) materials. Make experimental effects require materials worth three tier 3 and three tier 4 mods. Then the whole favors thing can be scrapped. It's superfluous design.
