Collection: Fetch the Biological Sample From a Settlement (Bug?)

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to report bugs or..?

These are very simple quests to just pick up something and deliver it. From what I can tell there's not supposed to be any combat in them.

But if someone gets close enough and sees me - I hear them talk (barely, I can't make out what they're saying) and then they start shooting at me. They blew up my ship, at which point I let them kill me, and wound up in prison and with a fine.

....What? Why? It's not an illegal mission, there's nothing in the description suggesting I need to sneak in and steal the item.

I don't have my weapons out. I wasn't doing anything. What the hell?

By the sound of it, you either missed a scan or were not friendly with the faction you were sent to pick up the goods from.
Scan.. On foot? I'm on foot, parked at the base. Maybe I didn't make it clear - they destroyed my ship while I was away from it. I was on foot going to pick up the item from the locker.

You might not have heard a guard order you to stand still while they scan you. They'll open fire if you don't. It's happened to me.

yeah, when they say "Hold on Commander...." and pull out their ID-gun.

So they destroyed your ship, but didn't shoot at you? Could be your ship was deemed too close to their landing pad or something, so they considered it a threat (read: another ship was coming in to land, it caused a 'pad loitering' timer on your ship, so they made it go boom)

Oh they shot at me. I just ran away and still tried to get the item. Got to the other side of the base and started hearing warnings that they were shooting my ship - then that it was destroyed.

That's probably it then. I just heard a bit of voice but couldn't make it out. Thought maybe subtitles would help but I just checked and found out I have subtitles on - I've never seen them.

In my case, the guard was pretty far away. I remember wondering if he was close enough to me that he'd want to scan, but his walk still seemed casual so I went about my business. I guess he was close enough, I didn't hear him, and dead. There may be a discrepancy between the visual and audio cues with regards to distance that trigger these scans. One more thing for FDev to sort out.

to all the reasons other cmdrs here suggest- sometimes yes but way too often a clear no to any of the suggestions. this exact same thing and others happened to me several times now. i tested it, compared it, repeated it uncounted times... fetch quests are broken at some places and at other places they work fine... i have a devastating almost 50/50 result in my tests just doing stuff for our mpf and it goes from legal missions wanting you to get illegal items, locked chests needing high authorization (which's mission givers sometimes say that you get the acess level but then you still have 0 on arrival), restricted areas in a sec 0 building with the item in it, guards opening fire from 100m away even tho im clean like mountain water to npcs stuck in running after me scanning me again and again and again and also an irritating high ammount of those missions being illegal but targeting my own faction's property... at other places they worked (mostly) fine but yea, it absolutely and definitely isnt always the player's fault cuz they are simply broken at some places. no point in denying that... that part of the mission board is a gamble...
