COLONIA and back is it worth it?

Do people really get much enjoyment out of the journey? For me, I was considering taking a Taxi (Fleet Carrier) then waking up their next time I'm on. I find long trips exceedingly tiresome.

If you can only think about what you are gonna do when you get there, then yeah the trip will be awful, if you can get into the miondset of enjoying the jumps, the honking and even the surveys of interesting places then you will find that the length of time the journety takes is irrelevant

I've attempted to enjoy longer journeys by doing other things, but I think I simply don't have an interest in exploration like many do. I just want to get somewhere lol.

The game simply mirrors real life in that respect, some people want a direct flight non stop to their destination halfway around the world, others prefer to go by train, boat and foot or a mix of all three enjoying the experience as they go. Thats the best part of elite for me, so many ways to do so many different things :D

I used to stack 20 courier missions to Colonia quite frequently.
Clean up the local hired killers in my Krait II, then swap ships to my DBX.
Jump all of the way to Colonia (a few days play), pick up around 80 mill for the missions, around 150 mill for explo data, and a few mill from local hired killer bounties - I had another Krait stashed in Colonia too!
Come back on the Neutron Highway.

So, yes, some people find the journey great fun ;)

Do folk still mine? I had a good time mining around Colonia, although that was a little while back.

There's a lot to like about that whole area. Picturesque, and much to enjoy.

Haven't tried mining may build a cool mining ship and do some while I'm there let you know how that goes. Or might build a wicked killing machine and just go on the rampage in Colonia. Go to jail and use my get out of jail card. lol ;) ;)

I think I'm going to need a new paint Job !! On my way to Colonia by the time I arrive there will be no paint left. Done the miles o_O o_O o_O

How much patience do you have flying for a very long time getting to Colonia and maybe back? The more that you have the better you will enjoy the trip enjoying seeing the systems that you visit along the way. The less you have get a fleet carrier ride to and back. You decide.

Sure it is. It's worth it just to make the trip for the experience. There are thousands of star systems between the Bubble and Colonia. Many of those systems have unmapped planets and exobiology that has not been discovered. Whatever you do, choose a ship you will enjoy flying. I took an unengineered vulture some years back.. best roadtrip ever.

Well that's something. I've engineered just to make the jumps a little less tedious. Yep found alot of new uncharted planets made the 1st step on those planets and exo bio been fab I think I'm up to about 30 mill in exo bio and I still have 144 jumps to go.

cheers CC

Colonia is a smallish area of space, never too far away from anything. I found it to be, compared to the bubble, rather restricting.

But I have a bunch of Ody engineer unlock mats for anyone heading that way.

So in Colonia what is the best station to set yourself up in ... good supplies etc close to engineers?

Cmdrs await your replies.??????

Everything is close in Colonia
However, if you really got there to unlock on-foot engineers, Tir is always a good system to settle in - its factions seems to always be in negative states, so the System is usually a paradise for restore missions (which are the missions that yield the most materials because of free looting)

There are so many great stations and bases to settle on all over Colonia and like Northpin says, all pretty close together. A jump or two will take you about anywhere in the mini bubble and if you get a hankering for some explo, go to the Magellan system (neutron star in the neighborhood) and jump out 100-150 ly in any direction and start discovering.
Colonia is also bug free so we got that going for us...for now.

Also check out @Alec Turner 's Going to Colonia most excellent thread for more ideas too.

Enjoy your trip and good luck.
