Colonia lost all systems scan

Hi all,

I am in Colonia about several weeks and I scanned a lot of systems and planets. I was doing an Odyssey on foot mission and I got a fine for aera tresspassing.
The alarm went on and soldiers started to attack my ship. I went to my ship and I was destroyed during take off. Then I respawned with my ship in the carrier dedicated.
I travelled back to Colonia the 1st system I analyzed when I arrived several weeks ago. I lost everything. Went to "Tir" scan lost also.

I just went to "Ogmar" I lost system scan, planet scan, and biological analysis too. In resume I lost everything = 100 hours play time.

Enough is enough.

Greetings.

you lose data when you are killed. it's been that way for 7 years.

you're not supposed to hold on to exploration data for weeks after returning to civilization - there's no real reason to unless you're BGS flipping by targetted selling of that data.
Thanx didn't know that. One more reason to uninstall this game. Cheers.

Trust me, we've all been there. Uninstall if you want but don't blame the game for this. You can see it as experience that adds to character.
Agree with you they should add loosing all codex data and loosing all your money and ships too. The best risky experience.

Not really, the game is fine just as it is.

Not sure if the exploration Codex entry mentions the of data, but it should if it doesn't currently.

Did you read it before setting of for exploration?

Didn't loose Codex entries. Seriously i am a new player from 6 months and no warning in game about something can make you loose hours of gameplay is unacceptable.

In the old pdf manual (v2.4, when an update frontier?) there is a chapter about insurance fees.
At the end of the chapter there is a
"Effectively, your career is reset, but note that you retain all reputation and rank gained/lost (to clear your career completely you will need to clear your save from the main menu)."
So if the career is reset it include also the data waiting in your ship, it's the same for all the missions.

The big mistake was getting in your ship and dying there.
IF you died on-foot you would have kept all the exploration data.

So, do not get killed in your ship, simple as that

edit: missing bits here and there, an r in your, a NOT in the last phrase 😂

Have you ever played a game for hours and forgot to save, then die and realize your error?

You did not quit that game, you learned a hard lesson and remembered to save from then on.

Here is a quick story to ease the pain. Friend and I got to Colonia from Sag A, instead of instantly selling data we hit a Stellar Phenomena in the system. He rams a little pod thingy and dies. Rip all that data from Sag A to Colonia...he got over it and still plays.

The game isn't perfect but it's still awesome. Get back in there.

I meant in the Pilots Manual. I have checked and I couldn't find any info about losing data on ship destruction. Would certainly help to have it there.

If you're not familiar with Pilots Manual section of the Codex, I highly recommend it, it is somewhat limited, but nevertheless it does contain lots of useful info.

I will come to Frontiers studio after developpers have done 100 hours of coding and I will take it and delete it. Will see if they enjoy.

I find it funny when people get mad for a game punishing you for dying. Like Elite Dangerous is so not dangerous these days that I would love to see these people cry playing the old versions from 2014ish. LOL

Well ,100h of gameplay might mean between 2 weeks and 5+ months of gameplay.
Even losing 2 weeks of progress and having to backtrack it can be nasty... but 5 months?

They don't 'need to backtrack' - they were in Colonia, they would respawn in Colonia - probably one of the least consequential deaths you can have. All they lost was some money and some finds. But money is easy to get, and finds .... lots more to find out there - we're still at < 1% explored.

They learned a valuable lesson ... if they were really just wandering around Colonia for weeks without selling their data. I guess fdev could add popups saying '10M exploration data at risk' every time you jump, not sure if they would go down well ...

I dont disagree... still it stings.
Like i said in another post - i once lost a 50 millions rating 5 powerplay voucher. And it stung.
But when i lost like 30 millions worth of exploration data, from faffing around in the bubble, it stung waaaay more. I was saving that data for weeks and was planning to unlock a couple of permits. 🤷‍♂️

But i guess it's the harshest lesson in ED.
Erm... waiting for threads like: i lost 4 months of exobiology data gathering... that would be interesting too.
