Color depth change after Windows update

Howdy, Cmdrs,

I'm having a frustrating problem after a small Windows update (which follows a larger update earlier in the week) last night. After starting up my computer this morning and logging into ED on my Rift, I found what looks like a drop in color depth, which is most apparent in the opening loading screen and in the in-game menu, but also seems to make the colors washed out in game. After searching the web, it looks like there's a well-known issue with Nvidia, but I'm using an AMD card (RX-480). I've tried reinstalling the video drivers, plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable, using a different HDMI port, messing with display properties, rebooting.... everything I can think of. Nothing is working. Interestingly, when I first get into the game and the cockpit first appears, for the briefest split-second everything appears normal. The view out the windshield shows a clear variation between the cloudy milky way and the blackness of deep space, but then something gets applied and then space goes to a more or less uniform grey. The color is there, in the cockpit as well, but the blacks are all gray and things look washed out. Gamma adjustments are irrelevant. When I bring up the in-game menu, the fields behind the text and the edges of the menu field are no longer graduated, but have harsh borders, as if the color depth has dropped to some low level. The game looks fine in pancake mode.

Has anyone experienced this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, all!

EDIT: This is happening across multiple VR games, not just ED.

First thought is if you had used the registry setting for disabling spud.
The windows update may have cleared/removed that registry setting.

I didn't reinstall the software, but I did delete both Oculus folders in the Appdata directory, thus requiring a complete setup. Reinstalling the software itself is next on my list.

Did a complete wipe/reinstall of Oculus, including going in and manually deleting all of the related appdata directories. No change. I also tried to uninstall the windows update that preceded this mess, but the uninstall process seems a little wonky, and it doesn't even appear that it was successfully uninstalled. The saga continues....

I am seeing the same thing - not sure if its tied to a windows update but a few days ago everything when grey - there are still spots of black in the skybox but they are minimal and even in those black zone starts have an ugly grey halo. I tried SPUD, and various HDR node modification of the xml graphic file with no luck.

Trying full re install of oculus and elite now...

Well, I found it was happening with Alien Isolation and Skyrim as well, so, if it is the same problem, the Elite reinstall won't have an effect. But I'll be interested to hear how things go!

If other Rift users are not seeing the same problem it may be a Rift hardware issue. How is your cable ?
I had a problem with my Vive cable, it drove me crazy till i figured it out.

Fixed my issues mostly... its not perfect but certainly playable again

Removed the under sampling of the game itself and lowered the HMD quality down to compensate - used to be at 0.5 and 2.0 - now using 1 and 1.5
I also played a bit with some color config; used this in graphicconfigurationoverride.xml
