Ships Combat Courier Help!

The Imperial Courier is usually bypassed on most guides because of its awful weapon convergence....
BUT if I did want to build a maximised PvE Courier —> aiming at speed, shields and damage (light hull) what would you recommend?
Thanks
🙂

Personally, I find Warbird works nicely in CZs.

But if you want plenty of ideas, there's a really nice thread ....

How does this look?
Are Frags a poor choice?
(Fuel Scoop/Docking computer etc are only their because they weigh Zero)

VERSION 2
Improved Hull stealing From @S0rkvild ’s build

VERSION 3 — SCB removed x2 lower weight Guardian Shield Reinforcement instead. Fuel Tank, FSD and power plant weights lowered = enormously faster and more manoeuvrable. Can’t jump anywhere though!

It looks like you've gone for a Faster boot FSD upgrade, not an Increased range, which I find a little unusual. I thought the faster boot only matters where you have the FSD powered down.
If you want increased range, you could exchange a loss of 9m/s boost in for an extra 6LY of range by going for a 3D and engineering it as Grade 1 Increased Range with Stripped Down.

After years tweaking my Imperial Courier I came up with this build. 729 boost and serious up close weapons with PAs and a rail gun. It dials in speed, weapons and surviving combat if you have the skills to fly it very fast. No NPC will survive even in a rez or CZ. PvP I'll put a dent in them then running away. It is a good meet-n-greet ship if you pay attention to your surroundings. The Courier isn't all that maneuverable so in combat keep the thrusters in the middle of the blue.

If your aim with fixed PAs ans Rails is bad this is a good trainer to make you better.

I went with armoured PP to keep the heat down when fuel scooping. Otherwise everything else is with weapons and utilities is light weight. With a 40 LY jump range and doesn't use a lot of fuel to do it is a good run around in the bubble or exploring leaving your fleet carrier in the darkness of the galaxy.

I'm not sure about adding to the hull armour dropping my speed as it has never got to that point in NPC combat. Being somewhat pink with pink thuusters and weapons some player may try to attack me. I smile hoping that they think I'm an easy kill...or just cannot stand the paint job!

That's a pretty impressive turn of speed and range for what is packed in there. You've got point defence, SRV hangar, frame shift wake scanning. It would be great for Materials or guardian blueprint gathering.

I think you are right about the loss of speed with armour, but there is an easy answer;
Build a second Courier specialised for combat. ;)

Here's my battle Courier

Velocity

I fly it wide open in combat, making passes, carving a big arc, blacking out due to the G-loc, and coming back 'round to do it again. Frags are not good synergy for ships flown this way. High closing speeds make frags difficult to use effectively. Couriers need not be flown like this, but that was my idea when building this boat, visions of Focke-Wulfs making beam attacks on bomber streams, you know? I have other ships for saddling up. This project was built with a different profile in mind.

My Courier became a bit of an all-rounder over time. It started out very fast indeed, but as the weaknesses became clear, more stuff got packed on, the speed dropped and this is the result. Still fast, and I can outrun the missiles fired by me wingmates, so there's that. They all fly deathstars while I zip around the periphery pecking away and chasing down the jumpers who they'll never catch.

We had a thread a couple years back that's is full of great Couriers if you're interested. A battle Courier is one of the most interesting build projects in Elite

Alski already linked it... ninja'd!

This is my Courier. Serves well for light combat & Odyssey run about. 820m/s boost, has armour & shields, undersized FSD & fuel tank.

If I want a bit more combat punch, I swap out the missiles for a PA (short range) or MC (short/corrosive) and equip a 3A PP (armoured/thermal) to cover the additional power required. Still boosts 790m/s.

Pve, Pve, but what's the purpose?
Asking because PVE can mean doing courier missions... in an iCourier ;)

Edit: btw, for combat, you need shields and weapons. You dont need speed.
400+ m/s is more than enough
550 is already over the top in terms of PVE
Anything over 550 is going to be detrimental to the combat ability of the said iCourier

A Vulture is a much better ship in all respects for PvE combat. It has more than enough speed, excellent lateral thrust, can do significantly more damage, and has double the shields. The speed of an IC has a big advantage for PvP, but not for PvE.

I've found that you get better convergence from the centerline mount to either of the nacelle mounts.

When I was running a combat Courier I used an efficient thermal vent beam on the port nacelle with a pair of overcharged autoloader multi-canons on the ventral and starboard mounts.
