Combat Rank

What factors affect the increase to your combat rank? I am pretty sure with Exploration and Trade rank it is just how much money you make.

It's not about Factions but the quality (Rank) of the ships you kill,in ascending order, the percentage of your Rank increase will be bigger,as you go up in Rank the % will start to get less and less,be warned it's a long and hard way! ;)

Yup, Exploration/Trade is based on transaction value only. Combat is different and assigns XP based on the enemies rank. Before the recent balancing the fastet way was via Thargoid Scouts (the small pesky ones), quick to die but ranked Elite regardless.

See here for how much XP you get per kill based on your rank and the target's rank:

The really demoralizing part is that when you make Deadly you are only halfway there

The OP didn't mentions Factions but rather Factors.

But yes, the only thing that really factors into combat rank is killing enemy ships and is modified by your rank vs their rank.

Yep at Expert clearing an NHSS Threat 4 granted 2% of total increase,at Master it's just 1%,I can imagine what happens for the last two Ranks

I was triple Elite before I wiped and started again so I know the road is long. I'm currently Elite trade and Dangerous 85%, can't remember about Exploration. I thought it was based on the rank of the enemy but wasn't sure whether completing missions assisted or not. Thanks all for the replys.

Another thought occurs to me. So ship size doesn't matter? You get the same points for killing an Elite Sidewinder as you do for an Elite Anaconda? That doesn't seem right.

That's right, so it's best to target small ships with high rank. You can farm them all day long at a CNB.

Scouts are probably still the best combat rank grind out there. It just takes 2600 scouts to go from deadly to elite instead of 1600 ...

Ah, thanks, I was wondering what the numbers where these days.

For comparison, assuming a specialized loadout one Scout can be brought down in well under a minute plus they come in near infinite supply. Hard to beat that with human enemies.

Just to put some numbers on that. I'm grinding up to Competent to unlock Olmanova for my alt at the moment. It takes me around 5 minutes per NHSS4 (including the supercruise and restock at station every 4-5 NHSS) with 4 scouts in an unengineered vulture with only two turreted AX MCs. That's around 50 scouts/hour and it is a clearly suboptimal ship in terms of firepower - but my alt is poor and can't afford a Krait ;)

And I'm 20%/19%(on right screen) into my Deadly!

An NPC SLF pilot will halve any progress you make while they are active unless they have reached Elite rank.

The lower the rank of the target ship relative to you the less rank you gain.

The amount of points needed for the next rank is equal to all the points acquired so far, when you reach Deadly you are halfway to Elite points wise.

It's more like "I get to destroy more ships?"
