Commander deleted!

Where did you bury him?

under the wifes prized roses....they never look there...:)

I know how the gent feels though...my 3 year old did something similar to me one time...I wanted to just scream..for about 3 seconds...then looked down at him and took a very long deep breath and re thought my reaction...he knew I had gotten upset for that split second...and his big saucered blue eyes started tearing up...I remember taking one knee and taking his arms and telling him its ok...daddy isn't mad we can fix it, it isn't a big deal...and meaning every word...so sat him in my lap and started rebuilding...sigh that was a long time ago...my youngest is now almost 20...but it did give me a different view for my games at that point...still play em and avidly but that brings back some memories...glad they could restore the CMDR for ya though...put him in a backup folder occationally just in case :)

I feel for you ray nova, though i cant blame my son, it was me that did it, total accident, oculus rift was showing the game upside down and screen messed up, was just trying to get out of game, my thread is next to yours, hehe, ive been waiting since the 16th so longer than 72 hours, i dont care how long i have to wait, as long as i get my stuff back, but this wait is really horrible, finding it hard to have normal chats with family, keep thiinking about it.

Because it's then open to all sorts of tricksies, such as editing it.

Edit [kek] : There's also a potential liability element involved as well

Yeah I suppose it could make people very careless if they can just do anything then rewind time.

what we need is a time period for changing your mind. Say 48 hours until permanent delete. Then accidents could be easily sorted.

From my understanding of similar topics, they actually create a backup before deleting, which is quite smart...

But they really need to change it so that you need to manually enter something specific, say commander name or similar, to really delete.

I never doubted the customer support. I just fear that zhey delete even the back up after some time. otherwise their servers would be packed in no time...

also allready have itchy fingers that lust for some elite but im afraid too much gameplay on my account will have the same undesired effect on my old beloved commander.

well hes been mostly good and to take away his presents that cole to christmas seems rather cruel to me. Would be annother story if hed done it on purpose but in the current constallation he will still get them...

Luckily for him star citizen ptu is out so i can get my sci fi fix somewhere else.

Its just a game after all and even though id be pretty sad if my old character couldnt be retrieved i wouldnt get too angry at him. he didnt know what he was doing. he just wanted to play the game his dad likes to play a lot...

It is the knowledge that your kids are always looking up to you and therefore their actions hurt themselves more than you could be affected, as well as the wisdom to always remember this, no matter how much your kids screw up, which separates the father from the mere genitor.

It does seem a little bit that they should require a code sent to your email to verify a clear of the save. At least they should.

It's probably to be expected that customer support is a lot busier this close after Horizons release (not to mention that some may already be on holidays). I don't want to sell you false hope either, but it's very likely your save is still backed up in FD's servers. And even if it's not, customer support may very well be understanding enough to restore at least part of your assets prior deletion.

Sorry for asking again but could I play the new commander until customer support answers me or will that overwrite my old one completely?

There was another player on here who made a new character and played it for months and decided he wanted his old military ranks back and they still had the data. I'm pretty sure they'll set you right up you just need a bit of patience and I don't think flying around will cause any issues.

A bit late. But if kids are going to share your pc, set up separate user accounts for them. It's free, takes 2 minutes and prevents this sort of stuff.

Well since we have 2 PCs in the houshold (my gaming computer and a regular for everyone to use) and mine is password protected I guess I just didnt think it through. Maybe because I was in a hurry but its not like he used the computer without asking for permission. I just never thought hed delete the whole thing.

When I asked him why he did that he looked at me with big eyes and said ''Well daddy I didnt want to die with your player so I wanted to make my own...''. Kinda made me smile haha

well as long as i dont have to start from scratch again... would be nice to have my fdl though.

Oh believe me, you do NOT want to restart. Despite what others may say, it is a very unpleasant experience when you're used to "higher tier" stuff and naval ranks and whatnot. 1.5/2.0 has made everything quite the pain in the rear for a new player/fresh start, then again, if you don't mind grinding bounty hunting for a few weeks, you'll be ok, unless you want faction ranks, then you're screwed again lol.
