Still cogs! Jeez come on Frontier how long does it take to manually sort through 19 million name entries?!?!

Just a quick thought:
For the NPC Name there should be a select Box for gender, as I would hate to encounter my NPC, send my standard threat (surrender or die or something :) ) and then have HER answer with a deep male voice ;-)
I just assume, that in a game of 2014 there will be some voiceacting for NPC, even if its not a lot of sentences.
What are your thoughts about that?

Afterthought: Even when it is computer generated voice, my NPC is definitely female...

Voiceacting is overused in games these days. I can read a lot quicker than someone can read out the lines, so voice acting is just tedious 99% of the time.

Yes that would be great :)

I am wondering why its taking so long.

you can only trust automation so far when it comes to weeding out commander names like Az Ole and Richard Head, from my understanding we will all find out at the same time so it may take a few days yet to finalize the first round

Yeah, I thought the same thing actually!

I would have liked to see (too much trouble I know, but imagine the drama !!) a live database of names chosen by username, and then as the staff went thru the listings, the names get bumped by "earlier" pledgers....

I have actually just finished going through the first round of commander names (they aren't updated on the web app yet, so don't rush to check!). There were very few attempts to sneak through profanities and generally most people have had their options accepted.

One issue that has come up is people that have prefixed their own titles such as Major, Captiain or even commander to the beginning of their names. These are being rejected currently, to give people the opportunity to revise their choices. Otherwise there will be a lot of "Commander Commander [insert name]" flying around. ;)

keep us the good work but don't feel rushed, I'm sure we can wait a nanosecond or two ;)

You rock :) Take a break, get a coffee.... then
Back to work or it gets the hose!!!

:D Thanks for the hard work :)

You can imagine the scene at Frontier Developments

"Right, everyone got their coats?"

"Donald, ready with the lights?"

"Ashley, get ready, ok, click 'up date' on the web-app!"

"RUNNNNNNNNN"

:D

Wonder if you can hear the "boom" from here when the servers blow up the minute the information gets out that the web app got updated. :D

If I worked at FD I would have been so tempted to insert a temporary typo into certain names, so the backers thought they'd screwed up the entry when they checked the page e.g.

"Dear Mr. Bonner: Congratulations, your commander name has been accepted and locked and cannot be changed. Welcome to the world of Elite Dangerous, Commander Boner."

Then listen for the screams.

On reflection, there's probably a very good reason why my job isn't public-facing.

Or "Congratulations, your commander name : Jameson has been accepted and locked.
