Thats exactly what im hoping for being able to change your name without having to clear your save, well at least be able to add a clan tag or name to your character, since it seem frontier hates player run groups. But its def something they should look into their are groups of us out there that would love to rep our communities and the like to truly feel like we are part of something more. Thats why you have so many dedicated players in other space "mmo's" is they become part of a corporation or organization and feel a sense of community with running with that specific group.

Better check ingame if the name is still available. Go to Friends and Private Groups and search for your desired name to see whether it's in use or not.

Yikes.. okay I just found the thread saying that there won't be a wipe on the 16th... Ahhh... I think I'll just keep to my name... I spent too many hours exploring systems with multiple stars (i.e. spending ages flying between the stars, let alone just finding their planets)..

Well today we attempted a batch update of names for the first time, and it turns out a nasty Trumble may have got stuck in the works... :eek:

The result of this is that any name requests that have been made through orerve.net this week have sadly been lost, and will need to be resubmitted. We're extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused by this, and will busy ourselves with approving all of your commander names in preparation for the beta!

The process for submitting your commander name is the same as before:

1. Login at: https://support.orerve.net/
2. Navigate to the ‘COMMANDER PROFILE’ tab
3. Enter your desired new commander name in the ‘Request a New Name’ field and press the ‘Request Name Change’ button.
4. If this is approved it will update the commander name at the top of the page.
5. If it is automatically denied a red message will appear above the field, stating the reason for the rejection.
6. If it is manually denied the player will receive an email telling them that their name has been rejected, once the batch update is complete.

Change name without Clearing Save

I originally changed my name using the Commander Profile Tab. That was then wiped and returned me to the default Backer **** name. However I was never prompted to change my name when I first loaded the gamma build. So I don't really want to clear my save due to the progress I got through gamma, to simply change my name, so is there another way for me to change my name??

I really thing the game would benefit from being to change names on the fly, be it from the menu or an in game source (like pay 1000cr to change commander name at registry within a station).

It makes it easy for people who have invested a lot of time into the game and then realised that they hate their name and also opens up the possibility for things like groups where you no not to mess with someone because they are part of a big group.

Nah... that'd give way too easy way to get rid of possible negative stigma/reputation gained with the chosen name. Name changing, IMO, shouldn't be possible at all w/o full save wipe (except with $$$ cost).
