Newcomer / Intro Commander Old Git Returns

Looking for some advice on where i should start in ED.
I've played the beta and 3 or 4 months after release, so its been along time since i last played.

The one thing im after which it lack or those years ago is the ability to play with others.
I'm aware you can join squardrons, but what im asking is there missions and pvp where you can join up with others, felt very lonely at release i couldn't team up with anyone.
Any tips would be appreciated, i know the game changes from patch to patch.

First job is to earn some credits, its a bit overwhelming when you start searching the internet for ways, although i can skip through the mining videos now by the feel of things.

Welcome back to the Elite Galaxy commander!

There is a subforum for squadrons and groups. Often groups are recruiting there.

I don't PvP myself but this is what comes to mind.

There is a PvP subforum. I think you can find PvP player groups there too.

Then there is the fighter club for everyone. They PvP in stock sidewinders so no credits grinding and engineering required to join the fun.

Since you've been away for so long. The game has changed quite a lot. Maybe you've found most the resources listed below already but have a look and don't hesitate to ask questions here in the forum.

In-game help is available in the form of menu links to the Pilot's Handbook and the Codex (right-hand cockpit panel 1st tab).
For a very good beginner's guide see: An in-depth beginner’s guide to Elite: Dangerous.
Tutorials covering all aspects of the game, many of them on video, are available from ED Tutorials.
There is a wealth of useful information available in these forums spread out over hundreds of threads. Thanks to commander @Alec Turner you can access all of that information and more via a single thread: Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2].
Also check out the inara.cz and eddb.io websites with (almost) realtime info on practically everything in the game.
The coriolis.io and edsy.org websites let you design your ships before buying them.
And last but not least, the Elite Dangerous Wiki contains extensive information on nearly all aspects of the game.

One thing you could do is get involved with @CMDR Kai Zen's Turning The Wheel initiative. There's a lot of background (I don't know if you've heard of the Dark Wheel and the hunt for Raxxla but it's to do with that) but the TLDR is that it's a big community initiative to run missions and bounty hunt and trade and all sorts of other stuff in order to try and expand the Dark Wheel faction towards a few key systems such as Sol in the hope that "something" might happen. What that actually means day to day is that you follow the orders posted in the group's Discord server (it might be "do missions for such-and-such faction in the xyzzy system" or "go bounty hutning in xyzzy and hand in so-and-so vouchers", etc). There's LOADS of people doing it so the Discord is quite lively (and is full of very knowledgeable people) so it's a great way to do stuff for a common cause working (and chatting) with all sorts of other people.

The forum thread for it is over here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/turning-the-wheel.546088/

Alternatively ... if you fancy speed running some Guardian Key collection out in the Synuefe region for a week and feel like getting sucked into the world of Buckyball Racing then just click the banner in my forum signature!
