Isn't this like having a player on a sports team also referee the game he's playing in?

Example - Agony Aunt replies to Vermistar, "Please do not twist my words to push your own agenda nor outright lie about things. It doesn't make you look good, its not big, and its not clever." If Aunt gets irritated enough with Vermistar, Aunt can make Vermistar's posts disappear or lock the thread, whereas Vermistar does not have this option available to him.

I'm not suggesting Aunt would do this, I'm just pointing out the potential of something like this happening in the "moderators are also active posters with opinions" setup of the forum. I've had my posts "disappear" before when debating someone with a moderator tag... Just saying.

This wont end well fer you m8...trust me Ive had enough infractions to mean Im qualified to advise ye to back off. Even if aa cant moderate that comment, his buddies can...all the guys together sorta thing. And complaining to Brett...pointless...I tried once and just ended up chasing my own tail in support and still ended up with a ban.

Trust me m8 just walk away...ye wont win this even if yer right...just let it go fer yer own sake cos they always back each other up ^

It would be incredibly dumb for FD to say something like that. Fortunately i'm not an FD employee and free to express my thoughts as long as they don't break forum rules and as long as i'm not moderating a thread.

So we understand each other then...cool ^

The other options are:

a) FD not allow moderators to post their own opinions. In which case, good luck finding volunteer moderators.

b) Moderators have secret accounts where they can post as non-mods. Its actually a discussion we have had. It doesn't solve anything, or, to my mind makes things worse. In such a scenario you don't even know you are arguing with a moderator. If the moderators are truly biased or use their power to remove posts, then you wouldn't have a clue that it was because user X03423BertXX23 is secretly a moderator and they were annoyed with you.

We also are not allowed moderate threads we are active in.

Ahhhh.... Very good then, that lays my fears to rest.

If you think your posts have been deleted for no reason other than who you are having a discussion with, then you need to raise you concerns with Brett through the official channel.

That incident happened months ago, it's now water under the bridge as they say.

FWIW, the vast majority of the time I am very happy when mods step in and bring order to the chaos that often bursts forth like weeds in the garden of our forum. As long as I can fervently disagree with some of your opinions posted as "Clark Kent" without worrying about Superman tossing me into space, all is good :D

Interesting theory. You forgot to add that all moderators have to be Bretts close friends and most of them are even family and every evening this sect sits around a fireplace and conspire against us, common folk, dividing shifts into trollers and banners, while giggling devilishly into the flames as the full moon rises up.

I wish people would stop giving away out secrets!

Nah that doesn’t make sense...happens way more often than once a month when the moon is full.

Interesting take on it though...I approve ^

Before I became a mod I was given an advisory for something that I couldn't understand. I sent Brett a message asking him if it was really necessary and to clarify why I had been given it, he checked through the moderation and agreed in that instant it wasn't actually deserved and so removed it.

Yup disagree all you want, as long as you stay in the rules it's all good :)

I never inderstood about half my advisories but every time I tried to get clarification, it ended up with me not getting any answers at all. Obviously not everyone has the same experience.

Anyway...this has already been sorted now and as it wasn’t posted as a mod, there is no issue to complain about just some dumb statement from another player that I disagree with. If it was posted as a mod, then it’s the best and smartest and most insightful comment ever made with tongue planted firmly in cheek ^

I understand my advisories. I disagree with them, but they're not worth arguing over.

It would be nice if they weren't the first thing on the top of the list when I check my notifications. Since they're irrelevant, I don't need to see them so often.

I was amazed to find it was a real place. That and Electric Avenue...

I've heard Joe Hill is worth a read. Probably more entertaining than OP.

Lol I used to live in Brixton up the Hill from Electric Ave.

I've only read a short story and now reading 20th Century Ghosts and enjoying his style so far.

Ok, as a Biased Mod I took the time to review the threads started by the OP and the subsequent reasons for their closure.

On multiple occasion threads locked by a member of the Mod team were duplicated and the closed again, other threads were closed with a clearly defined reason and in each case justified.

If you disagree with a Moderator decision you can email community@frontier.co.uk with your grievances.

As this pretty much answers OP's question, I'm going to close this. This discussion, while amusing and all, is starting to get a little bit close to public moderation contesting. As my colleague says, issues with moderation actions should be taken up in private with the Community Team.
