Newcomer / Intro Comms toolbar selection?

So playing in the Mobius group today I actually bumped into other players, (must be because it was Sunday), a bit embarrassing that the first invited me to form a wing, and I also received three friends requests but was unable to respond to any of it because though I can chat in the comms box, I don't know how to select the rest of the icons along the tool bar above the comms box?

Just use the same controls as you use to switch between tabs on the left and right hand menus.

I had the same problem. The problem is when you access the comms panel, your focus is on the chat box, and there's no good way to get out of it so you can use the Q and E keys to tab to the next tab. The solution is in the settings where you have to untick the option to focus on the chat box automatically when you switch to the comms panel. That way you are free to use Q and E without typing Q and E in the chat box. I don't even know if that made sense but its what fixed it for me.

I did try the Q and E and found Q and E appearing in the text box.
Will look in settings when play next.

Yeah, I that might be an issue. I use a joystick (hotas) so my left/right panel aren't text. While pressing Q and E just puts letters in your textbox. Dunno how keyboard players are supposed to handle this.

Press the ESC key if using keyboard/mouse or the Shift button on the joystick (if set up). On a X52 Pro, the shift button is the pinkie button.

Ah, I don't use keyboard buttons to switch tabs.

Of course if the other CMDR is in the same area and "local" to you .... typing straight in @ the initial prompt will do the job

I find the default controls for the comms is a bit clunky as it uses the controls I need to actually fly.
