Communicating in game - Do you chat with strangers? Friends only?

I say hello to most CMDRs I see, unless in a busy system known for piracy

wish there was more dynamic in-game content, be good to have that to talk about...

made a couple friends - one CMDR got speaking to came and did some bounty hunting with me last week, we keep in touch if we're both still playing
there's a guy who used to have the same home system as me but have't seen him in a while

I'm usually about HR 1257 / HR 1254 region, it's fairly quiet and remote, edge of Fed & Empire space....but actually quite good for trading & missions - feel free to say hello if you're passing

I say Hello to everyone I meet. I would say most will say something in return, some don't but maybe they miss the notification. Generally the conversations are short and sweet as I tend to be in supercruise when I see them.

It's nice to see a number of people keeping their Comm channels open like that.

When it comes to short "nods" of courtesy to other CMDRs I admit I like the shorthand I sometimes see like

o/ as a wave or
o> as a salute

I just wish there was an easier way to send that, rather than have to hunt and peck it. Maybe I'll just set up some basic greetings and whatnot via voice attack.

I was so busy chatting, last night, I forgot to ask docking permission, got a red warning and hastily reversed back out the slot.

I'll chat to anyone, but then everyone says I'm a bit of a tart.
