Currently in Galnet there are automated reports, a few Frontier-written articles, annnnnd...anything else? Not really!
I think it'd be an excellent idea - especially with the squadrons update on the horizon - to implement a "community written" section of Galnet. By this I don't mean for just anyone to be able to post and write articles.
There are many player minor factions in game. They're the sort of the mascots for their player-groups. Other than BGS, they don't have much effect at all on the greater galaxy. My idea is for these player groups to be able to post articles on the community galnet. The player group could nominate a member, or have a contact at Frontier to send the article to, and their article shows up in the next update, after whatever screening for offensive content Frontier needs to do. Using PowerPlay as an example, this would allow the main player groups, who usually do have player factions, to communicate with the community without players having to resort to searching the forums or reddit. The Fuel Rats could report on all the cool rescues they do, as "The Fuel Rats Mischief" is a minor faction in Fuelum. It's just an idea to keep people in game, as opposed to having to search out of game.
