Community Event / Creation Community goal idea

I had an idea for a community goal which I've actually submitted and I just wanted to see who here would support it, I thought this would be the best place to post it as it would potentially be a in game event. Though now i'm wondering if a community goal could actually affect anything in game?

If a research station was put in Laksak to look into defences against Thargoids then could it possibly result in a new module or some other form of defence against the Thargoids, I'm not sure how far Frontier will go with community goals but the basic idea is that we could work with Lei Cheung, the shield engineer, research Thargoid weapons/defences and potentially get a new defence for our ships against them.

Is the point of community goals to further the game? This is just the sort of stuff that I'm hoping could happen as obviously I think it would be a cool idea and it means the community goals actually matter a lot more as it gives players more than just some credits.

It would be quite interesting to see a community made module, mainly regarding the Thargoids, as we are facing a lot of incursions lately. Not only Lei Cheung, but it can also trigger a partnership with Ram Tah, the Guardian Specialist
 
You could make the new system a new Shield Generator that focused on a very high absolute strength with exceptionally low, none, or negative resistances against Thermal, Kinetic, and Explosive damage since Thargoids, much like Plasma Accelerators, cause absolute damage. You could also give it the ability to block caustic damage from reaching the hull. A possible lore explanation could be something like: By diverting space and power from resistance focused emitters and instead using it to allow for more basic shield cells an extraordinarily high raw strength was reached for the same size shield while lacking any noticeable resistances. By adding back and modifying some kinetic resistors Lei Cheung was also able to make the shield deflect Thargoid Caustic Missiles, negating all caustic damage while the shield remains online at the loss of a small amount of overall strength.

The last portion about deflecting Caustic Missiles could be made into a Lei Cheung specific experimental effect for a loss of say, 10% overall strength.
 
I don't think FD is going to approve creating new modules just because players will make an effort.
It's gameplay and balance decision, so if it happens, it will be on their terms.
 
I don't see why the community couldn't "RP" this officially in game while FD maintains gameplay/balance on their terms. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we currently have only Thargoid offensive modules and no defensive modules?

Its a pretty decent idea of putting a community goal in order to get a new module against thargoids since we need all the help to discover their true color of who they are, where they lived and so on..
I am sure there must be some mad scientist developing weapon/module against them and is requesting the community to help get the material, I approve this!
 
It could simply just be an experimental effect if a module is pushing a bit too far, it could at least act as a foundation for something that could come in the future.
 
This has my full support! anything we can learn about the Thargoids will be a benefit no matter which way you look at it, and honestly it's a great idea for a community goal! I also second an RP event that adds gameplay!

I would take part in your community goal as i'm considering starting to take part in them more often, my only issue is that adding the space station wont guarantee any new modules added. Though if it does give frontier a lore reason to add some that would be great, especially with the new thargoid states and thargoids potentially attacking player areas in the bubble.
 
This is definitely a CG I would support.... a shield generator or experimental which negates Thargoid Phasing weapons would be cool. Gotta give it some downsides though... like crap resistances... excess mass... etc. Something like this would be a nice addition to the narrative... given if Mankind is under threat from aliens, the research would be non-stop which means bleeding edge tech would be constantly developed and improved. Nothing inspires innovation and advancement like a WAR (because lives are on the line).

I agree, I was thinking something like negative 60% resistance to everything and a 50% higher maximum raw strength then the standard shield with a 10% higher power draw, same integrity and regeneration rate, and 20% more mass.
 
Most anti Thargoid stuff is currently active technology like weapons. Having some sort of a passive technology to protect against the Thargoids could be quite helpful. The only passive option to protect yourself from Thargoids currently are heavy armor which is not especially designed for that task.

This is an excellent idea Cmdr Tolmir!

If FD are willing to go the extra mile and add a new module that would be great, but perhaps an alternative would be to have a CG that permanently unlocks and existing module. Say a CG to build a new station in a particularly vulnerable system (out Maia way maybe) that sells the Guardian Shield Reinforcement, but without the unlock. Each level of the CG could maybe unlock a different size module. New stations are a 'standard' CG reward, as are outfitting options I think.

Either way, an excellent idea for a CG that the community would certainly get behind.
