I doubt this. I think the truth is closer to "every time they communicate something, they really, really get it thrown back in their face by a section of the community".
If they announced they were working on CQC, someone who, say, doesn't like beige planets might have a go at them because they were "wasting" effort on CGC. Or someone who is passionate about Karma will grind that axe. The list is endless. Personally, I think they do a great job in the circumstances.
