[Competition] The Pioneer’s Cooperative: Placing a Bounty on a Colonizable System

Awesome initiative. Currently I'm at the wrong side of the bubble (south rim but heading bubblewards) but I'll do some searching for ELW + metallic rings after my return. Doesn't sound impossible to find a system like that.

Alternatively it would be awesome if the CG involved terraforming of a terraforming candidate (maybe a TFC water world?).

I'm not the original discoverer (that honor goes to Destructionist), but I'll be claiming this little beauty.

OHO! We have our first on day 2! Boy that's a big system. And you scored metallic with the asteroid belt, and with many other ring systems.

Out of curiosity, how far out is that third star? Looks like the competition will only be a month after all. You just raised the bar :D

The third star? You may want to look again; the ELW is orbiting the 5th star. ;)

But the answer is:

Oops! Congrats.

I added this to the rules:

  • Part 2: The System Plan: Your notes and plan of future location in system on a screenshot of the system map (Include somewhere in here distance from arrival point to the earthlike)

Thats where the first station would be. And I'm sure people want to know. Don't worry though, 40kLs isnt too bad considering its in the next arm of the Milky way.

Its just a system name though. I dont see the four parts? Can anyone else see it? I'm sorry if I'm missing something.

I would love to see your submission though, and I'll add them to the OP.

Thanks. So only 2 glamour shots? If so, I'll probably switch one out for a shot of the metallic rings around ABCD 2.

Include a link to an imgur album under the system plan if you want. Use the glamour shots for your two favorite though.

Check those that are in the range for metal rich. If no one can find a metallic in a month we will use metal rich.

m25 sector av-y d33 has no rings at all unfortunately only an ELW
Bleia Dryiae JF-Y c17-53 was from a previous save so I will have to rescan it to confirm if rings are present or not, I dont have the system map any more

Maybe for phase two, not sure but at the 9200 light from Earth mark

Plaa Ain FF-Z d76 has an ELW metal rich and metal belts
and 45 light years away is
Plaa Ain KS-A b2-5 with another earth like in a binary orbit with a Terriformable metal world but no belts

Two colonies they might be able to mutually support each other.

Wait... You have another set of metallic rings as well?
Yes. :) I've updated the entry to include another bonus shot with that info, as well as the distance to the ELW.

Sounds good. Not sure how long I'll be able to stay out here to document the system much more though...need to get back in time for DW launch. ;)

Speaking of, another question that may come up, limit of 1 entry per pilot? :D

Focus on jump range. This will dramatically reduce the time it takes to travel.... and there is a lot of that.
I disagree with this actually. 2-5k is really close to home. Since the goal is to find star systems with planets that can support a civilization you will be making lots of short jumps. Economical will be even better in this regard.

I'm actually going to do this in my Corvette once I get it today, get a 17 LY jump range and go 3-5k out. It's about 58 total jumps for 1000 LY which is 58 chances to find something good after that I'll switch to economical for a while.

You are obviously missing the explanation of why I don't have those shots yet.

I read your explanation as Thats why you don't have the glamour shots, but if that's the case, then his is still the first complete submission. I have no way of knowing if yours qualifies until I see it, though I truly look forward to it.

You may have as many entries as you want, but you can only win once. So if you get voted 1 2 and 3, second and third place prizes will go to 4 and 5. Also if we get more submissions than we can fit on a vote, I will drop your additional ones first to be fair to others and choose the one I think is most likely to win.

I guess mine's technically not complete either, until I edit my system plans to show station locations and whatnot.

Honestly if I find anything on Distant Worlds that qualifies, I'd probably just hand it over to another DW member to claim. But that's a good way of handling it!

While the system plan isn't optional, I'm not going to force people to draw stuff in. Its a potential avenue to increase your votes. What you put include in the system plan is up to you and your creativity.

Edit: Okay guys, thanks for the initial corrections. I'm going to leave them the way they are now that we have our first submission. I should have noticed them before posting.

Everyone attempting this should check out the list of Earth-like Worlds compiled on a spreadsheet linked into this post https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=168287

Many explorers, including myself, have contributed to this list. There are hundreds of ELWs between the bubble and the Core. Let's start by looking at those for colony sites.

That's a great resource, thanks for posting it. I don't think I'll use it, kinda want to find it in my own, but still a great resouce. Thanks for providing it!

I came close tonight. Found an awesome system with a several high metal content planets with metallic rings orbiting each other. They were maybe one light second apart. However, the system had no earth-like. Next system I jumped into had an earth-like, but no metallic rings or planets. It even had a view of two different nebula. Why you do this FD!?
