Complete Disconnect Between Galnet and In-Game "Reality"---GG FD

Regarding Jaques Station:

Galnet Writes:
Which is fast becoming a popular nightspot among young thrillseekers from the Empire, Federation, and Alliance alike

I arrive at said station. What exists is as follows:

1. Home page
2. Contacts
3. Universal Cartographics

No commodities, no bulletin board, no repairs, no outfitting, no shipyard. Well I guess since this station is supposed to be owned/run by a cyborg bartender none of these things should exist. BUT, you know what should exist?!

That's right, a gd BAR. A PUB, a DISTILLERY, a SMOKER's DEN, a Whiskey Bar, a Nightclub, an Interstellar Rave. I don't care what you call it, but if you make a station completely founded on the premise of a barkeep, at least have the station contain a freakin' bar.

If not that, then have at least minimal interaction through the postings on the Galnet some further back-story involving Jaques. Like a "Hey, I'm glad you made it to my station, have a drink, oh wait, I don't actually have a bar to serve you from. Anyway, I'm a cyborg, so I don't have emotions or get bored by Frontier's lack of development and following up on any lore. Sometimes its better to be a Cyborg, that way you aren't disappointed by human failure."

Something to that extent. C'mon FD, perhaps its time to put down the Helicopter simulator joysticks on your RL walk-abouts, spending backers/players cash, and actually hire a writer who has a 1/2 decent imagination.

Truly disappointed by this bush-league "easter egg" you call an addition to the game. One more example of time-spent without any reward. I'm not just speaking monetarily, I mean some/any sense of fulfillment in the journey. I know, I know, "The journey there is 1/2 the fun!" While this is true, you certainly FORGOT ABOUT THE OTHER 1/2. Step it up FD, put the big boy pants on and implement some meaningful playtime.

Sincerely,

Slippstream

Unfortunately this didn't come as a surprise. That same disconnect between the news and the reality of the game has been evident for a long time now.

The news really add to the immersion, but sadly that immersion is ruined when you realize that the emperor has no clothes.

Sad thing but one of the very first things I have learned in ED that some important parts of it doesn't have any real function.
GalNet is one of them I'm afraid. Somoething I don't even bother to click on - it has nothing to add to the gameplay for me.

Some other things fall into the same category:
-trade routes on the galaxy map - useless and incorrect.
-import-export relations: carved with an axe and useless for a trader who spent at least an hour in game.
-commodities list on the market: 90% is pretty useless - there are only a couple of commodities worth any attention for the price, the rest is just there for decoration.
-bulletin board: a bunch of random things with little or no coherence to the location. Above the Cobra it offers next to nothing for a commander
-shipyard: totally random selection of ships with no coherence to the location. Same goes to outfitting. A high tech station does not offer some equipment what I can buy in little ratholes. For the same price I have to say.

I guess the list is not complete but it wasn't my aim to do anyway.

However I like flying in space in these ships. I'm even in love with the orange colour, I wouldn't swap it over to anything.
The only problem is that somehow it doesn't appear to be enough for me to start up the game lately...
Maybe a year later.

Yeah I went out there. I feel like I fell for something. I hope it's a bug because otherwise it's insulting.

Its not a bug. It was never there in the game. This is the reality of FD's attempts at in-game immersion.

Compare that to this version of GalNet....the gulf is incredible, and while there will be those that say "FD is just finding its feet etc etc" there's simply no excuse to be so amateur. A primary school class can come up with more consistency.

If FD can't handle making proper GalNet news, they should just stop. They're doing more damage than good. Just have a generated snippet whenever a new event happens. This would be pretty bad, but it would be better than what we have now.

If Frontier actually did this correctly, GalNet would have had at the very least a developed story arc covering 6-12 months in advance, and ad-hoc content could have been added with little pressure. As it stands it's more like GalNet entries are written on the train in to Cambridge with no attempt to actually tie in to the game itself.

This. Just randomly waste my time with a dead end, shove it.

YEah theres so much ED could learn from EVE.. like above SCOPE news, the galaxy map and its filters.. player interaction... and some little QOL things like
remaining jumps indicator sowmhere above destination target
line with route through the stars on universe background
amount of people in sector

...yeah i would like to see things like that

I'd prefer them to either stop or sub-contract it out to experienced content authors rather than break completely what little immersion GalNet has left. The people/ person responsible for it right now is clearly not up to the task or even experienced from the numerous and basic grammatical errors made for a start.

I ignore Galnet, along with USS's and anything to do with them.

And anything to do with combat, mining, exploration & cartographics, requisitions (unless they pay exceptionally well or by sheer fluke i already have the cargo on board)...

And anything to do with multiplayer.

I just trade, in solo mode, the only two worthwhile products, between two systems, storing up credit for when there's finally something to do with it. Buggy racing, building a homebase on some remote world, maybe sailing a yacht across a water world... years away, i know. Dunno what else to do. Don't really play much. It's all so lame at the moment..

Well I mean I wasn't expecting anything interesting to be at the station after hearing about all the other galnet fails, but it's not even a functional station. I've never been to a station that doesn't have anything. It's like it received special attention to have its content stripped.

If we get told to report to locations in rank up missions and of course nothing is there, even after being specifically told to go there, its pretty obvious that nothing else is really in game either. I had my let down in SOL early on but I was still learning the game so it didn't bother me much. Now the forum is more fun.

So let me get this straight.

Galnet has a flavor piece about the galaxy just like they do every single day. You get it in your head to go to the place mentioned in this flavor piece about the galaxy and are now upset because this particular bit of flavor would've required a major feature set that's not in the game yet to see it. Were you upset that you can't see the Federation Council chambers or something? That you can't actually go visit the Emperor? Maybe poke around the Vice President's Murder Scene? Find out whether people chew, smoke, or inject Onionhead? You can't get out of your ship! Just what exactly were you expecting?

Has the concept of reasonable expectations been explained to you yet?

So it's reasonable to expect a station with nothing, a station with less features than any other station in the game? They put no effort into this at all.
