Newcomer / Intro Complete newbie - quickest way to make money please?

Yes, you can use the same name.

The only way back to the newbie systems is to start over with a Clear Save.

11 million, seriously, it's peanuts these days. Being completely new it'll take you a while to catch on, of course, but that's kinda the point. Get out there and make your way in the galaxy!

:)

You could also just go from where you are. Starting over won't get you much other than the newbie zones.

You can do all the training missions from your right-panel, if you didn't know. It's all in there.

Does the game walk you through the different types of gameplay? Like exploration, ship upgrades, powerplay, planetary landing, etc? Or do I need to watch hours of Youtube for that?

Thank you for taking the time

Well, the best way to make tons of money right now is take part in the current community goals. You can literally spend 1 hour of your time and make over 500 million credits.

However, normally I would suggest just playing the game how you like it and not worry about money. I stayed on Cobra and Asp for some 3 weeks of my play time and after over 2 months my biggest ship is still a Krait mk2, with an Anaconda I don't use docked somewhere for hauling duty once a while.

Relax and enjoy the game, there's a lot of fun to be had and a lot of fun to be lost if you give in to the "must make money" craze.

After some trials, I'm now thinking that RES farming combined with massacre misssions could be the fastest way for a new starter to get credits, not counting the present community goal; however, it needs a bit of knowhow regarding where to go and how to get the missions.

It doesn't matter if you suck at combat. It's just a case of following the simple rules for high RES farming. No skill is needed to get started other than being able to point your ship in the right direction and move forwards and backwards, and obviously after a few sessions at it, you'd soon gain enough experience to do it safely. It's a bit more interesting than mining and passenger missions.

The massacre missions are paying between 500k and 1 mil per pirate. You can easily kill 30 pirates per hour in a starter Sidewinder in a high RES. By forcing the right spawn, you could get up to about 50 per hour of which about half are mission targets. In the right place, 7 factions are offering the missions to kill pirates from the same faction from the same station, which means that each kill counts for 7 different missions, That gives a theoretical average earning rate of 7 x (1.0+0.5)/2 x 15 = 78 mil per hour plus the bounty payouts of 15 mil per hour = 93 mil per hour. In a couple of sessions, you'd have n A-rated FDL, which would push that a bit higher - say another 20%, which would be around 110 mil per hour.

I'm presently getting close to 200 mil per hour in a Corvette battleship, but I still have some optimisation to go.

Rules for high RES farming with a weak ship. If you follow the rules, you won't even get shot at when using a Sidewinder with pulse lasers:
1. Only shoot ships that the police are already shooting at.
2. Don't shoot at any ship that can carry a fighter until you've checked that it doesn't have one. The ships are Anaconda, Gunship, Krait and Crusader. The reason is that the fighter will prioritise you. You can still get the kill if you wait until their hull has nearly gone, put 4 pips to shields and give it all you got until it pops.
3. Be patient and don't get excited. If you go for ships in a hurry, you'll make mistakes and shoot the wron one. remember, that new ships are continuously spawning, so if you miss one, another one will come shortly.

Other than those initial training missions I referred to, nope. This game does not hold your hand in any way.

Many things can be learned in game by trying them out, and others can be learned by talking to other CMDRs.

YouTube is a possible resource, but beware of outdated material. Much has changed in this game over the years.

And of course you can always ask questions here in the forums. Some of the answers you get will even be correct :)

Most of us old f**ts were able to do it without watching YT vids (I mean, someone had to make those vids first...). It all depends on how patient and frustration resistant you are. The game, in its current implementation, will give you the option to
  • do the (basic) tutorials (don't wast too much time on the "advanced combat" scenario, though)
  • do some basic missions touching on some gameplay types while still inside the newbie zone
  • delve deeper into the basic gameplay options when unlocking the Engineers for your ship upgrades
Advanced stuff, like powerplay or BGS, you're better off reading (and writing) on the forums, in Reddit and the various Discord channels.

Link please? Thanks
Which context?
BGS: Turning The Wheel, part of the Elite Week Discord https://discord.gg/Wtgnsbq . Actually the only one in the above context I was at least marginally active in. For Powerplay, you better try and find some power players (where's @Rubbernuke when you need him?) here on the Forums and ask them directly for a link to your favourite Power - I ever only was a module shopper, but I usually tried to contact the players so I wouldn't throw too much sand in their gears.

For a lot of things in the game, The Buur Pit is a nice (and family friendly) crowd to be around: https://discord.com/invite/WhRAe5j

If we ever get our backsides in gear again, the Buckyball Racing Club https://discord.gg/YwxcsCf is also a fun place if you want to fly fast.

Otherwise: find player groups of your choice in the events or groups section of this forum, or on Inara - most of them have a Discord, and a lot of them run open invites.

Oh, shouldn't forget the ARRC, a.k.a. Fighter Club - https://discord.gg/32vsVFS (ok, the ARRC is doing more than just the Fighter Club).

Some place to ask newbie questions, so I don't spam forum over and over :D
That is sort of what this forum is for.

There is a link to the Galactic Academy Discord at the top of the page in this forum.

Just want to reinforce the point that anything you find via Google, You Tube or even Forum Search should be checked for date of last update stuff in the game has been changed a lot some tips are outdated and others are also wrong as the user interfaces have changed.

Things on PC will be changing again on the 19th as the new Odyssey expansion launches then (later in the year for consoles) so there should be a lot of new guides coming out around then.

That's an optional DLC though, right? So unless I buy that, how would I be affected on the 19th? Thanks.

There are for example changes In the station menu for one thing that are highly likely to be applied universally, so even without having access to the new content you will be affected by change.

But my main point was that it will be a useful date to be aware of in the future when looking at external guides to decide how current they are likely to be.

Corvette battleship, but I still have some optimisation to go
Can you please post a link to your build so I can see it. Also what more optimisation are you doing? I am interested because I have a corvette build which I would like to compare.

This is the build I'm aiming for. i need to get a couple more Guardian shield reinforcements, but I'm managing fine without them.
Last night, I got about 520 million in 2 1/2 hours, plus a load of materials. I'm still figuring out the best way to get the missions. The problem is that the right ones aren't available all the time, so I have to log on several times during the day to check the mission board. By the time I'm ready to play in the evening, I have the 20 missions I need.

Some missions are 41 mil for only 16 pirates, which you can get in half an hour. The trick is to get as many of those sort of missions from each of the 7 factions at the station because each kill counts for each faction, so one of those missions from each faction would get you 282 mil in 30 minutes, but they're not that common. 21 mil for 20 pirates comes up fairly frequemtly and so does 41 mil for 90. Last night, I killed 72 pirates in 3 1/2 hours, but it seems that the mission target spawn rate is tied to the number of outstanding missions, so the mission target spawn rate went down during the session. I'm trying to figure out the best way to mitigate that.

Send me a PM if you want to have a go at it and wing-up with me.

This is based on your repuation with the Faction. For Massacre stacking, until you get to Allied, it is best to take rewards that heavily boost Reputation so that you can get to Allied. The payouts go up in proportion to that Reputation.

Hi Everyone,

I have just started playing and have finished the Dromi ’starter’ missions and was given one for 100k credits to go to Ehecatl. So my question is ‘what is the quickest and easiest way to make money?’ Bounty hunting I’m geussing is out as the starter ship isn’t really equipped for that sort of thing and to get weapons and defenses to any good level costs money anyway, right?

Thanks in advance guys and gals!

I started on April 3rd, so I'm not exactly sure I'm qualified to answer compared to the other folks here.

What i've found the most cash doing has been the bounty hunting. Getting into a Cobra-3 or Vulture will help a huge amount compared to the sidewinder.

I think they mentioned it, but stacking missions from multiple factions for the exact same job has been the fastest way I found to make money so far. The trick is finding the right system to do that in.

Around 3-5 days ago I found the Abrocrmii system that has 4 Ring stations in close proximity to each other, all with the same factions on them. This has meant that I can hop quickly between them and pickup the same set of "blow up the pirates" missions from each station so that they stack up and I'm getting paid 3x-6x times for the same blown up pirate.
As an added perk, the pirates are all in the same two systems with the majority being in a single system. I've picked up I think 150m in a couple days?.... maybe 3. I lost track since I upgraded parts with some of it and such. There are also a dozen or more Res sites of all different difficulty levels that you should be able to do.

If Mining is more your thing, there are some Pristine Ice rings 1 jump away. I can't speak to whats there as yet, since I haven't scouted them, but they are there none the less.

Edit: Oh, and it's Li Yonh-Rui faction. So cheaper everything here.

Small request: If you come here, please don't try and blow me up and force me to play solo....

So, in bounty hunting, mission sharing is where the real money is at. You go out run the missions, get into a wing before you cash them in, share yours across the wing, they share with you, everyone gets paid.
