Completely Unable To Scan With The Data Link Scanner

Currently attempting a mission located at the Clute Installation + in the Opala System. I have to use the DLS to interact with the Hub Access Terminal Datalink. I've tried to scan it both in the Scarab and in my ship. I have Horizons, if that helps. I've tried rebinding the key and changing firing groups. I did a mission here before, so I'm not sure if that's affecting it. No matter how close I get to what was the datalink the first time, it won't scan. All the 'fix' articles are from previous patches (circa 2015) and the control option referenced in the articles doesn't seem to exist anymore. Not sure how to fix this, if I can at all. I really don't want to abandon this mission considering I'm just starting and the mission is worth around 950k.

I just went to Clute Installation and I noticed two issues that may be affecting your mission:

- Firstly, there is no Hub Access Terminal, only an Operations Terminal and three data points.

- Secondly, the terrain seems to be offset so that trying to target under reticle is extremely difficult, if not impossible. I had to get close and use the contacts pane to select the terminal or the data points.

Try scanning it again after selecting the target with the contacts pane. If that doesn't work, the mission is also bugged as it sent you to scan something that doesn't exist at this surface base.

What ship are you using OP? Some are a lot easier to 'cosy up' to the data links - anything much larger than an FdL / Python will be difficult IMHO. For those types of mission I have a nice fast-but-shield tanked Eagle - or if I'm expecting trouble an FdL is acceptable (whereas the mamba seems to have a strange hitbox that stops it getting as close quite as easily).

(Cue replies from 'vette owners to say how easy it is :) )

I had actually completely forgotten about the Contacts Pane, so I'll definitely check into that. Also, that's really strange the mission would send me after something that isn't even at the outpost. I'll keep you updated if using the Contacts Pane worked.

I'm using an Adder, first mission at this outpost was in a Sidewinder. Haven't had much trouble nose-kissing the datapoint in either. Just doesn't want to seem to scan.

Hi, i have a similar problem when is try to scan a guardian beacon. I have mapped the datalink scanner as primary in a fire group where the composition scanner is second. I am able to use the composition scanner on the beacon, but the datalink scanner does nothing. I have targeted the beacon for sure. Also, it's not possible to get closer then about 800 meters to the beacon, then you get pushed back...
Am i missing something?

Edit: Did you activate it first?

Yeah is missed something, with ship you have to deploy the scanner the same way as hardpoints... You can do a long time to get to this when normally scanners are just working ;-)

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to report: absolutely nothing would work for me to scan a guardian beacon until I activated the turret. Then I could scan it, with a mouse click. I've no idea why. The comp scanner worked fine but the data scanner was just dead - no response to my mouse click until I went into turret and then clicked the mouse. The ship could not even see the beacon under "contacts". Hope this helps someone because it can be quite some effort to kill all the sentries only to have to give up at the last step because of a bug.

Using the Contacts Pane worked beautifully. Mission completed. Thanks yall :D

I noticed that using the 'T' key (i think that is the one) to select the object in front of you (another ship, a navigation buoy, a piece of asteroid etc) did not work well for me on one mission where i had to give a passenger contact with a tourist marker, so i used that Contacts Pane in the ships control panels to 'select' it, then it all worked fine and the mission was successful. I've just seen this the one time, so could be an intermittent type of bug, but sounded a little like what happened to you?

Edit: ok i see this was an old thread, so if my post is not applicable i'm sorry.

For me the data beacon was definitely selected. I could unselect and select it from the SRV, using the contacts panel or not, but the data scanner still would not scan.
