Completely unreadable text in DK2

Hi guys,

I got a DK2 on loan from a buddy and wired it up last night. I set up a user and made the adjustment so the desk scene in the oculus thinger came out ok. Then I fired up elite. It did look ok-ish for a bit, but on second start it became an utterly illegible mess. This is bad because without legible menus I cant set it back to main screen.

Could you more experienced occulists point me to the proper file to edit so i can manually put things in order?

I made one very short flight before things went pear shaped and ... there are no words...

By main screen do you mean to set it back to your monitor?
If I require it back on my monitor I just start ED with the rift switched off.

This days also my DK2 is acting wierd. I don't like the last update,3.02 was ok, now I get some strange "ghosting".
Will pass through settings and file mods later.
Now I don't remember but there is a file where you enter your IPD from the Oculus tool.
Plus disable cockpit effects from the graphic options

I believe the file where you enter your IPD is no longer used and is taken direct from your rift config. My IPD in this file in 0.03 (I have caught fish with bigger IPDs) I have changed it and it gets reset at each build, but makes no difference.

I redid the measuring in the Oculus tool. Also, and this was I think the biggest factor in fixing it for me, I wiggled the set a bit until it sat better on my face. Game is playable and .... its... full of stars

Also keep the lenses clean, it can mist up in there quite easily. Also some jitteriness of the image can be caused by a loose fitting on the headset.

i played for 3.02 for several hours on Thursday, went away for the weekend, came back on Sunday and played 3.03. There is a definite issue with sharpness in this patch, text is blurring noticeably.

I noticed that if you move "3d separation" slider in settings then value for IPD in xml file changes, so it is used somehow, but it is not 100% related to your IPD values.

In your settings file the "IPDAmount" should match the "IPD" value of your Oculus profile.

The two files are at:

C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\Settings.xml

C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Oculus\ProfileDB.json

Replace ****** with your username.

Currently any change to your graphics settings will reset the "IPDAmount" to 0.000000. Interestingly fixing my IPDAmount also improved my framerate.

How very strange in B3?? Now the two are exactly what the OR config. utility sets them too, that's new before the first file had no effect on settings at all.

Frontier shouldn't store this value on the Settings.xml file, it should always be read from Oculus profile.

I believe that this helped me a lot (thanks) and I think it may be what is causing problems for other people on this forum when they complain about cockpit seeming too small and side panels not staying open. The thing is, I tried this after a few days break from E: D so i can't be sure if I am experiencing some sort of placebo effect. It would be great if the devs could confirm that this is a problem.

This has made a massive difference for me! Its true what Juanlo says though. You should not need to faff with this setting as Elite should read it from the rift setting.

Huge difference for me. I can actually see the screen door effect now rather than just a blur!!

That's mine

... as for the unreadable text issue. I have totally unreadable texct in Extended mode, but crystal clear in Direct mode. Any ideas people?

Edit.. here is what I posted in another thread as way of demonstration:
This is what the initial 'warning' screen looks like, and the menus are even more unreadable.

and here it is in Direct Mode, crystal clear

if my IPD is 69.3, where about should the decimal point be in the settings file?

this is for 65mm
<IPDAmount>0.006500</IPDAmount>

Gomisan: this is very interesting, I didn't try direct mode yet as everyone was complaining about speed, but I'm struggling with text as well, so I will check it later on and post my findings.

Have you checked the resolution in the E: D graphics options when you use extended mode?
I was going to suggest the same as I experienced this very issue last night. I'd enabled a "third" display on my machine, an old VGA monitor and on re-enabling the Rift it kept the VGA screen's resolution settings, rendering everything completely unreadable, the same as in your screenshot.
