Composition Scanner or Genetic Sampler?

Hi All,

I see a pop-up message that says: "Codex discovery voucher of 2500 gained," when using the Composition Scanner (in the SRV) on an organic for the first time. Scanning an organic for the first time with the Genetic Sampler does not pop-up this message. Must I scan each unique organic with the SRV to get this voucher? Or is using the Genetic Sampler enough?

Logged in for an Elite session after quite a while... Skipped two updates and found myself in Update 9 today. Nothing has changed for explorers, it seems! The planets look the same from space and on the ground, the organics look the same. The SRV ride felt like driving down a forgotten C road. My long absence from the game is most definitely a reason, but the discomfort was unpleasant enough for me to pause and write this message... The grind to find Osseus (800m limit) was irksome, to put it mildly. The hiatus from the game has not made it 'feel' any better.

Thanks and O7.

I always comp scan (from the ship) before landing & using the bio scanner. It gets the extra pilots federation vouchers (sometimes, usually on first scan of a type in that system) but other than that extra bit of cash it makes no difference, your codex will update anyway I think.

So you don't have to, but if you do you get a little bit extra reward.

Hand scanner does codex entries as well, the comp scanner payout is so small i rarely bother. If pilot fed payouts actually achieved something it would be worth doing.
