Compromised Nav Beacons - Possible to 'de-compromise'?

I've seen the question asked, but haven't seen a reasonable answer. As another data point, I've taken a system with a CNB from low security to medium security, but the CNB was still compromised.
I suspect it's a switch that FD flip manually from time to time, when they get a round tuit.

I have seen it change (beacons which once were "safe" become "Compromised", and vice-versa), but I think it only changes on an update.

Personally, I never caught the concept of "compromised" with a Nav Beacon - I thought it meant that it would give you bad data or something like that.

Basically its a no holds barred nav becon, like a Haz RES. No cops, no rules, there can be only one, etc.

Yeah, what exactly do they do? Just make more ships show up there or something?

I stopped at a number of Compromised Nav Beacons, to get system updates (no honker on board). At those, the gist of the "error message" that pops up when I scan/download data is that cops won't be able to show up (I assume it meant "when you get into trouble"). I still get the entire system map filled in fine.

I get the feeling it is basically just a disabling of the "report crimes against me" thing while in that system.

I'm just hanging out at one for a bit and wondered if I spent long enough, would it make a difference?

Getting past 'Deadly' in combat sure is a painful endeavour (yes I know, play the game, let it happen, etc but after keeping tabs on the slider I worked out it would take about a year of casual play to get to Elite).

I'm pretty sure you can't change them any more than you can change Hazardous RES's to other types.

In this case, it just means that the Compromised Beacon is going to be swarming with pirates and the police won't be coming to help you. (That's the Error you get on dropping in - no police response available!)

Last year about March/April, The controlling faction (Anarchy PMF) of Orrere was removed and it was noted a few days later that the nav beacon had become compromised.
March this year they became the controlling faction again and it was noted a few days later that the beacon was no longer compromised.
Thursday's tick will be day 3 of the civil war currently raging for control and it is expected that the anarchy faction will again be removed and the beacon will become compromised again either Thursday or Friday.
Just in case anyone wanted to witness it.
