Newcomer / Intro Computer Docking Sequence - Stanley Kubrick's Original in 2001: A Space Odyssey

ED's nod to Stanley Kubrick's docking sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm sure most people know this, and have seen it, but I thought it would be nice to show where the idea originated. Of course, this was also in the 1984 original Elite as well.

You will notice the IBM logo in the spaceship cockpit. Rumour was that the rogue computer HAL was Arthur C. Clarke's sideswipe at IBM, the letters of HAL being one offset from IBM.

It's a shame but Arthur Clark said the IBM thing is myth, it was a coincidence. However, never let the truth get in the way of a good Internet fact

Unforgettable. The only movie I had a small "Stendhal syndrome" about... I watched this masterpiece some 20 times already, every single time enjoying new emotions. Some time I got myself in tears in front of the movie sequences.
Every time I dock in ED I think about the Clipper from 2001 approaching the station.

VMS (of Vax fame...the mainframe, not the vacuum cleaner) is also only 1 letter offset from WinNT. Never used a VMS though, so don't know if it's as buggy as NT.

Used it to code my programs when I started mya engineering career, 1st year at university. Oh it was quite a long time ago :-D
