Good news everbody!

As well as the option for single-player online, there's going to be a totally offline version without the dynamic universe. You won't be able to transfer offline commanders to an online environment though. It's mainly there for if you live somewhere with a really horrible internet connection, or want to play on your laptop in a cave. Or if the apocalypse dawns, or something like that.

I missed that bit. Thank you for the clarification. It did seem odd to have no single-player... Be even more fun to go a viking without other players being too selfish to part with their cargo.

Well I bought myself a i5-3570K CPU, 7970 GPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Fancy MOBO, couple of SSD's etc.. a few months back.
Even did a bit of overclocking and have the 3570K running at 4.2GHz and the 7970 at 1GHz.
Elite Dangerous was the driving force for me to get back into PC gaming after a good few year hiatus on the consoles so If my PC doesn't run E: D at 1080p with all the bells and whistles turned up to 11 I will be disappointed

Maybe I should have waited till closer to release but I couldn't wait really, I WANTED ONE!

Worst case scenario though is that I'll need to bang some more RAM, another 7970 in it and overclock my CPU further (still have plenty of wiggle room temperature wise as my heatsink is bigger than my head).

Thinking of getting something similar myself, keep on price checking various sites for bits n pieces. Although DB did say that E: D was going to be for unashamedly high-end PC. He didn't clarify as to what that meant.

But high end from when? If he meant high end at the time of the kickstarter then that would still be pretty high end for then.

The trouble is that 'high end' is a vague , fluid and constantly changing term. Last year's high end might be next year's entry level.

It also depends on your display. If you're going for a single standard 'HD' monitor, I'd think you should be ok. If you're going for a higher resolution screen or multi monitor setup I don't know. Then again, until FD start giving us more detailed information, we can't be sure.

If your configuration is not enough to play ED, then there will not be many players who can play. Seriously, you have a racing machine.

Not sure if this is any good or not being a technical nincompoop (I would guesstimate it's not brilliant but not awful)?

At a guess (and it's only a guess) you'll be able to play it on Low graphical settings. You may be able to bump some up to medium.
Pure speculation though as none of us know the minimum settings for the game yet.

Do you play any current games on it? What kind of settings/performance do you get?

Yeah, I figured it would be enough to play it but wondered if it'd be enough to play it with everything maxed out at 60fps at 1080p.
I'll be playing on a single 1080p display (I've also go an old 22" monitor I could hook up if E: D has any cool multiple screen jiggery pokery) and I can currently play any game (bar Arma 3 and Crysis 3) with all graphical settings maxed out at 60FPS so I should be good.

Don't need EVERYTHING maxed out though, willing to drop AA to 8x or 4x rather than 16x

Would hope it's a month or so before the Alpha tests begin to give those that need to upgrade enough time.

Bear in mind that mimimum/recommended RETAIL specs may differ from alpha/beta recommended specs. For example, I did beta for Age of Conan and it was not very playable on the machine I had at beta time, but was buttery smooth on the same PC at release (using the same settings).

Same here - I had a requirement for a new PC for working from home but that somehow morphed into decent gaming specs..

Very happy with the results so far...

I'm in that position now. I should have upgraded my PC in April/May but I'm delaying it until November. It's proving a real pain as my current PC doesn't even have virtualisation so I'm having to put some projects on the back burner for a while.

Bear in mind that mimimum/recommended RETAIL specs may differ from alpha/beta recommended specs. For example, I did beta for Age of Conan and it was not very playable on the machine I had at beta time, but was buttery smooth on the same PC at release (using the same settings).

That will be interesting. I've never done any alpha/beta testing like this before, can it cause damage to files?

I had a plan to wait - I was being very patient and rationalised it in my head.

Then one day the old machine finally peed me off one too many times so I just went for it. I know if I'd waited I could have got what I got cheaper/better.

But I got a good build so it should be fine - can always strap another GPU on if I need it - but don't think I will for a while...

Got fed up of wireless so went for wired on the basis that keyboard and mouse specs are not likely to change that much between now and release.

My Saitek is a couple of years old but I think it will be good to go too.

Hah - did the mouse and keyboard at the weekend - and a gaming mat!

Went for the whole rig a couple of weeks ago - put it together (1st one ever) and am still slightly amazed that it went without a hitch (mostly)!

Even got the Saitek working - it just wouldn't play nicely on the laptop.

Well I'm working on a wooden surface so I found the optical mouse didn't respond well without a bit of paper under it - and a little mouse mat never seems big enough.

The mat seems to do the job.

It looks good too.

The build was actually not that difficult in the end - took me a while to figure some bits out but having done it once I could do another much quicker. If you've built PCs before you probably wouldn't have too much trouble. More of a time/convenience factor I guess.

Usually I'd just buy with a warranty but I thought I'd have a go this time.
