Concerning Japanese Macaque

I just wanted to address a few fixable points on Japanese macaques in Planet Zoo.

A Japanese friend of mine brought this up about 2 years ago [1], where Japanese macaques in Planet Zoo requires a minimum of 20% snow in their habitat seems unrealistic, which I strongly agree. Japanese macaques may be famous by its other name "snow monkeys", but that does not necessarily means all of them live in sub-arctic taiga of Shimokita Peninsula alone. In fact, their seasonality varies by distribution hence their physical and behavioral adaptations (one being the famous learned behavior of sitting in hot springs). Therefore, a more realistic terrain distribution on snow would be 0~100%, just like their terrain need for rock, which would make sense since the macaques would be foraging for tender shoots and fallen nuts in other seasons than winter.
Even in the video link (from 03:18~5:38) [2], you can see the macaques can still live in a snow free setting in summer, though as correctly mentioned in the Zoopedia they are not at their best with high temperatures.
Additionally I compared the natural habitat map on Zoopedia with that on the Japan's Ministry of Environment homepage, and some of the distribution does not match well. I'll paste the link to it [3] so hopefully all of the above are fixed in future patches.

Once again, love your team delivering by every patches, and thank you as always and in advance.

And also, is it just me or do the macaques seem to look plastic? I know a lot of the base game roster suffers this, but it seems extra noticeable on the macaques than the other animals (minus the lion's helmet mane)
I think model wise they are actually among the basegame animals that held up the best.
Although i have an issue with them were their fur coat disappears when you zoom out to far from them, than they just have their bare model which then indeed makes them look very plasticy. Maybe you have something similar going on?

Maybe it's just me😅
Maybe I don't know what a macaque looks like

Is not just you. I also think they didn't age well. They do indeed look plastic, and the fur surely needs a revamp. Is such a cool species to have and is not the worst looking animal in base game but it does need a make over. I can't remember if there is a remaster mod for it. I assume there is.

For those who don't get the idea, here.
As you can see the texture becomes all the more plastic when you zoom out.

Based on the coloration, it's most likely the devs based the model on the Shimokita Peninsula population seen next to it. But this is not the only variant seen in Japanese macaques.

The Hondo-Zaru or "Mainland monkeys", including the population above, have a varied range in hair coloration from ochre brown to dark brown as seen below.

A more striking difference can be seen in the southernmost population called Yakushima-Zaru or "Yakushima monkeys" (the one on the right in picture below) , living in a humid subtropical climate, where they possess much more coarse and darker hair that can be even more obvious when they're young.

Hope this provides even more references. 🙏

That too imo also needs to be done as much as other animals do. Also could do more variety in hair coloration like pale brown or olive brown.

Absolutely agree.
Also aren't they able to swim?
