to be honest i don't believe the thargoids are the big threat everyone says they are, just watched blind pews latest ED video and it is very interesting.
It should be available on the FD YouTube channel.
Unless of course said weapon was only effective against Thargoids and not the current ships available to players.
Great, I have not even played the game yet , and now I have to prepare for a war! 
Only if you want to, the galaxy is a big place, I'm sure those who don't want to be involved will be able to stay out of it.
They even said that this new threat and finding/receiving weapons to fight them could possibly turn into a arms race. Would be cool to turn into a Lord of War and be a gun runner lol

Yes, but typically it's not the thing I was trying to remember. In the same way that I'm sure I've heard a talk by DBOBE about how the Thargoids might not be the big nasty out there, how even they might have something they're 'running' from, I was thinking that one of the stream vids had talk about what I mentioned . . . oh well, I'll have to keep searching then

Our general uselessness has not even just been hinted at - it's been spelled out in numerous articles and streams including as some commentators argued - engineered ships well largely be useless (begging some to ask the question what was the point in all that grind just for PVP set-ups??).
IN any case i think you can expect lots of CG's to find new stuff to help fight the thargoids, or their oppressors...whatever.
