Newcomer / Intro Conflict zone question

I found a conflict zone yesterday and dropped out of SC to join the fray. When I got there, I scanned each ship and saw that the ships present were from two warring local factions. All ships were marked "clean".

if I were to attack and destroy any of those ships (for either faction) would I be branded a criminal?

When in a conflict zone, first go to the functions panel of your right hand menu, once there set your faction (top item). This allows you to fight for one of the sides and earn combat bonds. And no, fighting in a conflict zone does not make you wanted.
