Whilst I totally agree with the OP in the lack of actual Hype for the Odyssey expansion, I'd have expected it to be notched up to 8 or 9 by now,
and it isn't, I do actually like the game we currently have, so am doing my very best to remain patient!
If we take the OP's entire post history into consideration, it does become obvious that he/she/it, in a similar manner to myself, is surprised how low-key Frontier is approaching Odyssey.
The comparisons to NMS and CP2077 are curious, and, expectedly the SC Tech Demo reference appears to be mandatory when comparing a released game to an alpha one...
1. Piracy
2. Piracy
3. Piracy
4. Have I mentioned Piracy yet?
5. Piracy
PVP Piracy is an immersion thing. PVE Piracy is knocking out drives and playing bumper cars before you whip out your first hatchet limpet. Both are in a sad state right now. Doesn't help that mining prices directly affect pirating too.
And let's be very clear here: piracy is the most complicated and advanced task in the game. I don't know if the PP thing is truly a bug or that's just FDev lip service, but bump stops are getting old.
Now that legs are on the horizon, how can we not address the elephant in the room that is piracy-on-life support.
I hate to give Star Citizen credit but they've taken a very aggressive approach in support of player piracy and there's zero reason FDev has to play second fiddle here.
Dear FDev,
Do NOT announce anymore games or content. You are horrible at branding, and while overhype is certainly a problem so is underhype. It's almost as if you KNOW Odyssey isn't as polished as you'd like, but much like No Man's and CP2077, the cat is out of the bag and you're on full damage control.
QUELCH THE HYPE, QUELCH THE HYPE!
Well it's worked. I actually couldn't give a' -- about Odyssey. No preorder and I'll wait for it to be in the bargain bin on a steam sale in about a year or two.
There is no hype for your game; the very opposite of overhype, and just as damning. It's almost as if you, FDev, know somethings amiss, and are in full damage control.
I do not care about Odyssey at all and have zero interest to play it.
But, I have to admit, even with the low-key approach to the release of Odyssey by Frontier, I have pre-ordered alpha as I am quite keen to have a play with it as soon as possible.
