Consider the impact of a tether for colonization mechanics ...

I'm still not sure why people think these chains of stations will remain a single line of stations for very long, every system settled becomes the center of a bubble of possible new colonies, and groups wanting to expand their faction can use this corridor as a method of increasing the size of the faction, whereas a colony way out in the black isn't going to do anything useful at all as far as the BGS and PP is concerned. The other thing is, why are you even worried about them, if that's what players want to do, just let them, they don't affect you, they don't harm you, they don't cause a negative impact on your gameplay, the only thing I can see here is that because you don't like it you want to stop other people doing it, and that is simply not the way to play the game!

Some people just want to build their own mini-bubbles thousands of light years from Sol.

Over the years I've bookmarked a few really cool systems while exploring. They're nothing spectacular, I just personally like them. Slowly building up a few self sufficient systems in my special spot 10k light years away sounds like fun. Even if it takes years to do it.

Taking years to do stuff is why I play ED. No rush for anything (contrary to what some people seem to think).

Before colonization there were systems and stations in the bubble that didn't get touched for months. The idea that you can create another bubble somewhere still applies with the untether option. And now that you can take your squadron faction anywhere, the bgs can still work if someone decides to settle next your system. It's not what other players want to do... If they want to chain stations all the way to hell I certainly won't stop them. I'm worried about what I want to do. Which is like another player mentioned, set up my own little research stations out in the black somewhere far.

Id be fine with just a fleet carrier by fleet carrier doesn't offer missions, so... The new colonization is the best next thing. Except now I have to wait and snipe a system from someone worked hard to get somewhere nice. That's basically what is happening. Folks are watching stations grow and they are looking for ELWs. Once the chain gets with the LY limit they put a claim.... Someone else does the majority of the work and someone patient just swipes it.

Without the tether, a player can actually do some exploration and find the system they want. Even if one they were looking at was taken, they could still have the freedom to look for another ELW (or whatever other preference they may have).
