Console Profile Transfers: FAQ and Expected Date

Look on Amazon for a generic PlayStation controller for 16.99$ that emulates xbox. It might sound confusing but I actually play with the controller religiously. If I can send you a Direct link to it I will try.
Edit --= https://www.amazon.com/predark-Controller-Compatible-Playstation-Indicator/dp/B09M7Y6KSW/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=1ENOCM7IXTM8N&keywords=ps4+controller&qid=1654223715&sprefix=ps4+controller,aps,188&sr=8-8

Here it is. 😉
I'm curious about this controller. The PS4 version of the game does some useful thing with their controller, I'm wondering if you can tell me if this one does the same things.

In the PS4 version, the controller has a tilt function and is mapped to the head look so tilting the controller makes your view move,. Can this controller do that?

Also, the PS4 version lets you map the clicking of the touch pad as 4 sepperate buttons, depending on which corner you press. Is this possible on this controller?

No, afraid the touch pad is actually a button. Its a great controller but what I do is use the keyboard for certain functions too such as opening the ship cargo scoop or dismissing my ship. Anyway, if you don't mind there 'not' having a touch pad I still recommend it. Just keep in Mind that there are generic controllers with a touchpad but i cant point you to one.

As loathe as I am to come back to these forums at all I just needed to drop in to clarify points around the OP (as I can no longer trust anything FD says after decades of supporting you people, so excuse any repetition) :

1. In September of 2022 console user accounts can be migrated to PC, in this case from my PS4 account.
2. At that time I will receive a PC version of ED(H) for free.

Point 2 is important because:
1. I already have one PC account through Steam. Is the second free PC account I receive (and I want it because I have no intention of deleting my original PC Cmdr) through Steam or is it vanilla?
2. If it's through Steam how will that work?
3. When the account is migrated from console to PC does this mean the console account can no longer be played on the PS4 at all after the migration is complete?

I only ask as I bought the PC version through Steam and then also bought Horizons through Steam a long time before it was folded into the ED installation.

Then I bought ED for the PS4 and then Horizons for the PS4 before it was folded into the ED installation and played the game again on the PS4 with the belief that my PS4 gameplay was moving towards Odyssey. Perhaps it may be clear why I, as well as other console users, feel completely ripped-off.

So yes; I want to migrate my PS4 Cmdr, and yes I want to migrate my PS4 Cmdr to a new free PC version of ED(H) without losing or compromising my original PC installation or account.

I will be checking on the September timeframe to make sure I don't miss out.

As part of this migration process perhaps FD should consider a mailing list of interested console players so we all know when, where and how this magnanimity will occur.

I apologise if the questions I ask have already been answered in this thread but I am not about to read through the past seven pages of posts to find out.

I suppose you could read the OP and things might become clearer.. :)

1. vanilla, a plain frontier account
2. n/a
3. it's an account copy - your ps account will not be affected and you can play it as nothing happened

you existing pc account will not be affected

There are some questions regarding carriers since a carrier is tied to the account and cannot be migrated/copied.
So the current thought on the matter is sell carrier before migration, then rebuy the carrier back on both console account and the new pc account. The credits loss will be rather minimal, but if you have cargo on that carrier you need to find a way to deal with it (sell it or transfer it)
However, FD said they're still looking into this issus

Another thing not being transferred is Arx so if you have any of those use them before the copy is made for the transfer as items purchased with them will copy.

What are my options for my Fleet carrier and its contents?

We are looking at a number of options to give the best continuity for CMDRs being copied from Console to PC.  As soon as we have more information on Fleet Carriers, this page will be updated to reflect our plans.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the update. I have a question which you might not be able to answer yet due to the fleet carrier contents section being a bit bare.

I plan to leave my Fleet Carrier with the PS5 account for now, because its linked to a squadron. I probably won't even buy a new carrier on the PC but, will I need to unload all my ships and modules from the Fleet Carrier prior to the transfer so they don't get left behind on the old account?

This will probably need to be checked and the FAQ made clear before people potentially lose a lot of ships with engineered components and ends in a lot of tears.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Ships and modules should not be affected at all if you leave them stored in your carrier. Why would that be?

2-3 possible situations:
your pc account will still have them stored there on the console carrier.
or
as it happens if you leave your ship/modules on an ax megaship, after the ax megaship departs the system your ship/modules will be "somewhere in the system" and you could transfer them from any station that has shipyard/outfitting facilities
or
they will be moved to a nearby station during the migration process

However, if you have cargo stored on that carrier, most probably will be left behind in the console account along with the carrier

Just because you think its obvious, doesn't mean it is. Hence why I am checking. The quote is very very vague.

"Contents" could mean anything from commodities to include anything contained in the carrier, such as "ships" and "modules"

While I appreciate your response, I would prefer something official from frontier. I can unload all my PS5 ships and modules prior to the transfer. I just want it to be clearly stated be FDev in the FAQ before the transfer goes ahead.

Thanks.

Sure, sure it's always nice to have an official answer

But what do you think happens with your ships stored to a carrier being decommissioned? Do you really think they disappear along with the carrier?
Or, what do you think happens with your ships/modules stored on an ax megaship (that will leave the system when its role ends)? Do you think they disappear when the megaship jumps from the system (gets removed from the game)?

Again, it's an account copy.
As far as we know from the current announcements, the carrier will not be transferred (nor the arx) but the ships and modules will do (no matter where they're parked at)
The content of the carrier actually refers to it's cargo - and again, it will not get transferred.

What they said is they're looking into other options regarding carriers (other except "carriers cannot be transferred")
And what i see as another option is for them to automagically enable a carrier on the new account and duplicate its cargo content
Nothing impossible IMO, but it's an operation that needs to be automated because i dont think it's feasible to have the support manually doing this for several thousands of carrier owners

Don't forget that the console carrier will still be visible and accessible from the new PC account.. I'd imagine that's why there is a possible issue transferring carriers and that they are still investigating if this could be handled in a better manner. I'd post any such ambiguities so that FDev are aware of any unknown potential pitfalls but wait to decide until the transfer is closer and things are clearer.

A lot of the pitfalls dealing with ships from account P being stored on a carrier owned by account C are dealt with since carriers were added to the game
For example, when a carrier gets decommissioned and it's removed from the game all the ships and modules stored are moved to the nearest carrier vendor station

And after the copy we will have 2 independent accounts.
It is entirely possible that the account copy process will have a "starter system" parameter for the new account but it may as well be that the ships/modules for the new account will be stored in the same system they were stored before the copy
For example my XB carrier holds like 38 of my XB ships (40 being the max), but i have some 10+ more ships in other systems. So they wont be able to migrate all my ships in the same base/shipyard so they may as well leave them where they are and both my xb and my new pc account will have some ships in the same system (identical ships - duplicates)

( lots of the carrier decommissioning mysteries explained here )

In fact it might be prudent to ask for a few volunteers to test the procedure before it's rolled out for everyone. I'd imagine that there might be a few edge cases that are difficult to imagine upfront.

Yes, i know this however the ships are tied to the PS5 account too so because the carrier doesn't transfer it may do odd things with ships which belong to that account. Hopefully ships stored inside are independent but, it's unclear how host (ie ones belonging to the actual transfer account get treated at the moment).

Hence, why i've asked for clarification.

It's definitely something which needs testing as a case of transfer imo. Thanks.

I'm actually a little disappointed, I spent years on console maxing out practically everything until my friends decided to move to pc. So I made the switch with them and have now been on pc for going on three years. I have so much invested in both profiles but they are still making me choose one or the other. So like I said... disappointed.

As I understand it you will still have the two accounts, just both on PC. You will still have the console acct too but without the ability to add Odyssey.

Thats the thing though I don't want two accounts. I was hoping so bad that they would let us merge our accounts and I don't see why they cant do that.

You already have two accounts. You won't be any worse off than you are now, I fact you are in a better position than many console players who don't already have suitable PC hardware.

They will have 3 accounts.
The original console account '(you will still have it after transfer... which actually is a copy)
The current PC account
The console account copied on pc as a new account

No merging as in No progress merging.
But there is an option to sort of merge: transfer your console assets value in credits over to the PC account, transfer whatever cosmetics you have on console, then the console account gets deleted. This one is available now, you need to raise a support ticket and express your wish.

You can also wipe an existing PC save and copy the console save into that. This is what I will do. I'll lose some engineering but, my PlayStation account is much more advanced than my PC

Pro tip. If you plan to do this liquidate your PC assets and use a fleet carrier to get the credits from your PC account back over to the console account before you wipe it.
