You seemed to have misplaced this knife. I'll just retrieve it from my back! Time to uninstall!Greetings Commanders,
Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.
It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.
Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.
We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
I actually agree with you.Well if it is a move to get resources to more profitable projects good for Fdev
As an elite player and been at it forever and a day (at least 1894) I think 8 yrs gaming and paid fdev £40+£30+£30+however much a jack o lantern costs is pretty fair value enterntainment(how much is a sky sports/netflix sub per MONTH! )
And if the servers went off tommorrow I'd drink to the health of my clan mates and hope to see them at some other time in some other game

Thanks for the economics lesson. Not having a plan for porting console player CMDRs who would HAPPILY buy on PC shows the lack of concern for a huge player base. Frankly it smack of incompetence from an economic perspective too. They don’t have to port cosmetics. The ending of development is only the half of it.Games are not some sort of community service, they cost money to make and if few people support that version of the game its going to be stopped sooner rather than later. My question is, were there enough console players to warrant the expense of trying to optimize the game, given that I presume the majority of players are on PC, and that FD cannot expend infinite resources (considering they have other games to make too).
I respect your opinion, and yes... they will move faster with focus, at least they'll be able too.if you honestly think it'll move faster you are kidding yourself. I guarantee that they haven't even cracked 10 hours on trying to port Odyssey to Console because they effed up so bad on PC release. All their efforts have been shoring up the PC release. Time tables won't move up. They just simply won't have half their player base constantly asking for Console news. And I get that multiple consoles in development is hard but MOST gaming companies do just that. And Fdev chose not only to expand to XB shortly after the PC release but then after a year or two, expand to PS. And finally more MANY of us there is NO moving forward, there is nothing good to focus on and there is no more story!
Don't trust anybody. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Live your life in total apathy so nobody can hurt you no more. Buy ARX.What are you trying to convince me of here?
Your post would probably sound like this through the medium of song:Better to focus and be effective than spread oneself too thin and put too many obstacles in the way of development. So good news overall, if a shame to have to cut losses like this.

That wasnt Frontier's fault though .. this is ..
Agreed. I can't count how many games I've loved, but simply can't play anymore due to them aging out and no longer being supported. It blows, but such is life.My 'beef' so to speak is that people make the mistake of investing too much time into the company behind the game and start over dramatizing negative outcomes for what is, just a game. Like I said in my last reply to someone else, the word 'trust' is not a good word to use, because so much can change during a games development.
And I know what the reason is. fdev want PC players to get only the best updates for the elite. They're abandoning a lot of us and millions in sales by doing this...
As I alluded to, MAYBE it's time to dial back development on the PS4 and Xbox 1 versions either until the expansion can run on them, or MAYBE altogether, but even if they HAVE to, they could at least soften the blow by releasing the game on "next gen" systems which can surely run Oddessey, but they don't seem to be interested in that for some reason.
The soul of the game was Drew Wagar? That was lost when people like Drew Wagar moved on.
Thanks for the chuckle CMDR! o7Don't trust anybody. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Live your life in total apathy so nobody can hurt you no more. Buy ARX.
We don't know the number, and I'm pretty sure the decision was based in the number of console players. One of the big concerns I have is after announcing the cancelation of consoles a huge amount of consoles players will lose interest in the game and then when the users drop below a certain number FDev will stop running Servers hosting the few console players still playing and then will shut down. Very frustrated.
I cannot wait to see you go flat on your face when it will be discontinued all together, and yes I will be around.they don't owe you anything over and above what you paid for. did you pre-order odyssey on consoles? no? there you go.
They don't owe you anything. if you don't like elite and fdev that much, don't play it.
